Will SOG renovation kill CR discounts?

I know this is tough to forecast, but if anyone's had experience in this sort of thing...: MouseSavers reports that during SOG's renovation, scheduled to last through 9/03, the military et al will be offered special rates at CR instead. Because rooms might fill up at CR faster than usual, does this mean the odds of getting discounts there next year are greatly diminished? We recently booked CR Tower for Jan. '03 at the rack rate (ouch) with the expectation (hope? prayer?) that a decent discount would appear sometime between now and then. (At the very least we're aiming to snag a AAA deal, but hopefully a better "code" discount will appear.) Will we be able to switch to the Poly if they offer a discount but CR doesn't? (One of our DDs will be 2 1/2 when we go, and this time we really want the convenience of a Monorail resort.) Or have we inadvertently entered Fantasyland?

I don't know about next year but it was darn near impossible for me to book a room this summer with a discount and I had been trying since March. I finally gave up on the CO. Good Luck!

Discounts are definitely "yield" driven so if occupancy is higher then discounts are less likely. SoG relocation is eating up about 300 rooms in the North Garden Wing. Another variable at CR is rooms being held for conventions.

Other than that, January is generally a slow time so it would seem likely that discounts will become available a monorail resort or WL, keep watching.

We booked the Contemporary at a Summer Saver rate for early August, and got a pretty good deal. We're paying $134 before tax, which is not bad at all for a deluxe monorail resort. It's only for 1 night (separate resorts the night before wedding), but still we had no problem getting the discount when the Summer Saver rates came out. I think they were good through something like late June to early August. So they didn't mess up the discount rooms being offered this summer, at any rate.
Cheers!

I don't remember wich code it was, but we booked the CR for 8 nights this June for $100 dollars off per night. It worked out to be about $170 per night for a Standard room including tax. I also requested the North wing and I was pleasantly surprised when our north wing request was granted.
