Will Soarin' make me dizzy?

I had to laugh when I read this because I went on this ride for the first time in 2007 when we were there. I got on not expecting it to go up and it did. But anyway it went up and I grabbed my husbands hand and said I don't like this. With all these kids around and three of them being mine. LOL

Anyway when the window opened and we started gliding I had to shut my eyes because I thought that I was going to get sick. I opened them once in awhile to see what my kids were ooohhh and ahhhh over but they would go right back shut. When I went to get off my legs felt like jello.

We are heading back to the world in eight days and will I do the ride again ???

YES I will do it again my kids have already asked me

:rolleyes2

Lol, I'm glad I'm not alone, I get the same feeling on Soarin:scared:. I am terrified of falling the whole time and freaking out that one of my kids are going to take a tumble, but my kids love it so I deal with it.. I must admit though I turn into an evil mom and smile inside when I see a long wait or see that no fast passes are available.
Everyone in my family is dying to do this - even my father who does not a single ride (well maybe Small world) but I cannot go on that thing again. I told them, "have fun, pick me up in mexico when you're done." I"ll be there with my margarita(s) and nachos.

I get motion sickness on boats (sometimes cars and planes) - Soarin' didn't make me dizzy but it did make me a bit queasy. It wasn't too bad, didn't last long - I would do it again but it is not one of my favorite rides.

I can do roller coasters and rides like Tower of Terror with no problems. But, I can't do motion rides at all. I start to break into a cold sweat, and have to look at the floor. By the time the ride is over, my day is just about done. I'm really dizzy and have a headache for the rest of the day.

Even with all that, my parents suggested Soarin' might be doable. So, last time we were there, I tried it. I had no problems whatsoever. It was a great ride, and we're looking forward to riding it again this spring. Even my DS who suffers really bad motion sickness had no ill effects from it.

I hated Soarin...I am not afraid of heights, or flying, but I am deathly afraid of water...I will never ride it again...for no amount of begging...I kept my eyes shut for most all of it...I'm not sure if dizzy is the correct word, but never again....

My son has a Kart game for his Wii and I cannot watch him for more than about a minute because I start to feel dizzy. Will Soarin' make me feel that way too? I would hate to spend the rest of the day feeling bad. I guess I could just close my eyes if I started to feel bad. Does anyone else get dizzy easily and have Soarin' experience???

When people ask I usually describe Soarin' as sitting in a rocking chair in the air watching an IMAX movie. I've never gotten dizzy on Soarin' (and I have been on way too many times...) but I have known others that have. Usually I say if you can't handle an IMAX movie, I wouldn't recommend it.

A GREAT tip that really helps for me during Soarin is to look to the side. The actual motion of the ride is very minimal, it is the wraparound screen that gives you the illusion of more motion. So if you avert your eyes to the side and just look at the gears of the ride over there, or even the person next to you, that helps for me. The problem for me is I ADORE the ride, I think it is stunning and amazing, but I can only tolerate it in tiny doses. So I keep sneaking little glances but then have to look away eventually. It is not so much dizziness, it is the nauseating feeling from the huge drops that gets to me. Even though I KNOW my body isn't actually falling, I still can't seem to shake the feeling. It doesn't make me scared or anything, just queasy. That said, it is one of the kids favourite rides, and to be honest, mine too, I just wish I could enjoy the whole thing:rolleyes:

When my kids are old enough to ride alone thats where you'll find me to!

Sometimes I get HORRIBLE motion sickness in the car, but I really want to ride Soarin'. I'm gonna take the chance!

We don't have any problem in Soarin', my DH and kids really loved it also same here. :thumbsup2

Have a nice day everyone. :)

I don't see how Soarin' would make you dizzy. It might give you a drop-in-the-stomach feeling a couple of times (like going over a bump in the road). And if you are afraid of heights it might make you feel funny (you're not that high off the ground, but the movie makes you think you are). But dizzy - no, I don't think so.
Ah, you've never experienced motion sickness then...any time what your body is feeling and what your eyes are seeing don't match up, you can get dizzy and sick feeling. Soarin is the absolute worst one for me in this area - the "wind" motion is totally not lined up with the camera movement, and I refused to ride it last time we went - and I ride EVERYTHING else in the parks. I told everyone else to go without me - and I enjoyed the alone time. :beach:

I will not, however, go into any of the movies about the countries, because there are always the "flying over the" whatever shot which make me feel SO crappy. This is totally true - if the IMAX bothers you, Soarin will probably bother you too. It's probably worth it to see it once, but if you feel real crappy after a movie like that, then you may just want to skip it. Good luck!

I can't do Soarin' or Mission Space. I do get motion sickness but not on most thrill rides. Mostly just riding in the backseat, reading anywhere in the car, or circling Philly for 45 min cause the plane picked up a good tailwind from Vegas and they had nowhere to put us. :crazy2:

Did Soarin' last year, wont be doing that again. I don't like doing the Imax or the 360 movies I don't get really sick just a bit queasy but that is quickly fixed by shutting my eyes for a few seconds. That trick really didn't work here not sure why. I just kept waiting for it to be over. Felt a little "off" for about an hour or so afterwords.

Went on Mission space on my 2005 trip. Saw the warning signs and ignored them. I mean just about every ride has the motion sickness warning and I never had a problem. I was more concerned about the whole claustrophobic thing. I shrugged that one off to, I am slightly claustrophobic. No problems in planes or cars, small crowded elevators do sometimes freak me out. But again, I have see warnings in the past about this too so I shrugged this off as well. Then I saw the bags on the ride and front snapped down   I managed to keep from freaking and keep my lunch down thankfully, but felt awful for about 3 hours after that ride.

Well, after all you have all said, I think i will give it a try...and avert my eyes or close them altogether, if needed. My kids really want to ride it and i want to try it. It may be my only ride, but I'm going to give it a go. Thanks so much for all your input!!!

can anyone tell me what exactly is soarin'? will my 3 year old like it? Is it fast? Please help

It's supposed to simulate "soaring" over California - in a hang glider or something like that. It's very gentle. My kids loved it. My parents loved it. Everyone loves it. (except me and a few others - we need a support group)

Picture an imax 360 movie. then picture sitting on a ski lift chair while watching it, dangling over the ground (about 20/30 feet up in the air) Your feet are dangling, the chair gets minimal movement to match the views on the screen.

I don't know if I'd take a squirmy kid on it because there's no good way to hold them in place.

Maybe I'd like it better if I hadn't been on the "top" row?

Im the Worlds Biggest Chicken when it comes to heights and fast rides (or seemingly fast) so NO Rollercoasters or Tower of terror for me.

That being said: Soarin' was Great for me... didnt get sick or anything....love goin on the ride now... and suggest you consider trying it once... sit on the extreme right side of the right-most car (ask a CM) and you can "beak" the illusion of flying fast as you can see "off the screen" to stationary world. Now I prefer the middle cars :) but it DID help for the first time to do what I suggested.

IF you can handle this one it will likely be one of your favorites... Gorgeous scenery and the music is awesome!

I have a tendency to feel queasy with these sort of rides, I personally really enjoyed Soarin', and rode it several times........I don't think this was mentioned yet.....but when I rode I felt a lot less of stomach dropping and dizziness (which was quite mild anyway for me) by sitting in either row 2 or 3. This will put you in either the middle or bottom, and you are able to see the feet of the people above you. For whatever reason it helped for me!

I have motion sickness, the only way I survived the ride and did not get too sick was I had to stick my arms out in front of me and pretend I was SUPERMAN!!! My wife and kids (along with others) were :rotfl2: their heads off at me, but I had to do it so I would not get sick.

I would not recommend this ride if you have bad motion sickness.

It's a wonderful ride! Makes you feel like you are hang-gliding - but that's something I would never really do, so Soarin let's me pretend that I am.

Actually, it can make some people very dizzy. It's not the motion in your seat, it's the movie screen.

I have to close my eyes during a few scenes (the headlights on the bridge for instance) or I will be feeling very nasty when I get off the ride. I even have a problem with a scene in Mickey's Philharmagic when the carpet is flying between buildings.

Like the original poster, I can't watch my kids play certain games on their Wii because I get sick.
