Will Soarin Close At All In 2015?

I realize there are still many unanswered questions about the new Soarin movie, but once the movie is done, how exactly would the transition take place? Would the whole attraction be shut down for a time? Could they keep one side open while the new movie is being installed in the other theater? Or do they plan on building a whole new theater?

All great questions, and all completely unanswerable at this time. ;)

There have been rumors about a 3rd theater being built.

They could conceivably build and open it, close one old theater and refurb it and then do the same with the other one.

Then there's the question:

Will they just switch out the films, which may only take a few weeks while they reprogram and test the theater? Or will they do a full refurb which would probably last a few months?

I couldn't imagine Soarin being down for any major length of time, especially with Maelstrom down as well (not that Maelstrom is an E-ticket ride, but options at Epcot are limited to start with). Epcot without Soarin for a few months would be awful. Imagine the crowds all going to Test Track :crazy2:

I still think they should build a second Soarin! Maybe in DHS and have a new movie highlighting prominent movie settings or cities around the world. Can't get enough Soarin.

That's assuming Soarin' will close at all while Maelstrom is down in Froway. We are firmly and completely in rumor territory.

I read somewhere they want to add seating. Maybe they'll build an identical theater, then shut the current one and refurb the old one. Purely a guess though. But I agree, I don't see how with the limited amount of rides how it can be down for a long period of time.

Oh darn, planning our next trip for Nov. 2015 and I was hoping we would be able to ride it. I guess we'll just have to go back in 2016, but who am I kidding, we would of anyway!

Mesa, you watch the DLR stuff a lot more closely than I do - did they just announce a refurb closure for Soarin" to upgrade the projection to digital?

I assume they'll have to do the same thing at WDW for the new movie, but it really shouldn't be that long of a closure for that type of upgrade, you would think...

Hadn't heard, but haven't been paying attention much there myself lately either.

One of the rumored attractions for Avatarland is an attraction utilizing a Soarin' 2.0 ride system. This is the rumored ride structure. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tWOel4EoD_g

I love that ad. "Like nothing you've ever experienced".
Unless you're one of the millions and millions of people who've been on Soarin. :lmao:

The rumor for DCA is they'll replace the projectors before they replace the movie as part of 2 different refurbs. Who knows if that's true? Shanghai is supposed to get the new movie first, but with them on track to open in early 2149, that may not be the case.

Maybe they'll do what they did when they shut down Test Track for eight months in 2012...which was to shut it down without ever putting it on any refurb/closing lists or ever announcing the closure.

If you don't say it out loud, it isn't happening!

My thoughts exactly. I was like are you kidding me??? At least portray it for what it is. I love soarin and may enjoy another ride similar to it with a very original and unique film, but don't say it is "like nothing you've ever experienced."

It's not a Disney commercial. :confused3

Perhaps the people they are advertising to haven't ridden Soarin'.

Froway...Love it! My DD is so upset that they are removing her favorite attraction (though I personally don't get it!) Add that HM will also be down during our Dec. visit and she is not a happy camper!

Wasn't really paying attention. My bad. Someone said it was for an attraction in Avatarland, so I figured it was Disney related.

It is not directly Disney related. It is the current rumor of the ride system of the Avatar ride from the manufacturers website Dynamic Attractions. Dynamic Attractions has worked with both Disney and Universal on the ride systems of some of their greatest attractions including Soarin', Test Track, Spiderman, Forbidden Journey, Gringotts, and others.

When the Flying Theater showed up on their website. http://www.dynamicattractions.com/products/flying-theatre/ . it seemed to be the perfect fit for the Avatar "soarin'" ride. Hence the rumor.

Likewise, when the SFX coaster came out. http://www.dynamicattractions.com/products/sfx-coaster/ it was assumed that was what Gringotts would be like. In fact, for a while, the Youtube videos got pulled. In reality. That is the ride system but only the tilt track was used and different ride vehicles were added.
