Will She or Won't She--8/17 Update-Cow Tipping?

Boy, those weekends, even the long ones, are just not long enough!! :sad2: It was nice, tho, on Friday not to have to get up early. :) The Kid and I slept late and got up in time to meet my friend and her daughter. We all went to lunch at Red Robin and then a drive down to Girl Scout camp to pick up some things. My friend works for the GS council…long, drawn out story but the bottom line is that our council is not very volunteer-friendly (this is the opinion of a volunteer) so basically my friend works for “the other side”. It has caused a wedge in our friendship so I try not to discuss GS with her if I can help it. (Makes it a bit hard since she helps me with my troops!:scared1: ) I just agreed to go down to camp with her because A) she is notoriously late for everything and I didn’t want to be waiting around for her to putz around camp and B) it gave us some time to talk which we haven’t done in a while. We were going to the movies in the afternoon so I knew I needed to be around her to make sure we made it on time!
So, we do make it to the movies to see G Force. :cool1: We saw the 3D version.

It was a cute movie. Probably not something I’d choose to see but the Kid has been looking forward to it so I knew we’d be seeing it. It was funny and made me laugh out loud quite a bit. I’d recommend it!

Saturday we were supposed to go hiking in the Adirondacks but backed out because I had a sinus headache. We were moving slowly that day and got ourselves out the door by 1:00. We went downtown to the Arts and Crafts festival. There were a ton of festivals going on around town this weekend. I am not much of an arts and crafts person but this one is a juried show and the stuff is good. The Kid wasn’t so enthusiastic about it but if these things are left up to her she’d stay in bed watching TV all day. We ate at a restaurant that is smack in the middle of the festivities.

TheMission.jpg

This is a picture of the restaurant in the background and some dancers in the foreground.

It’s called The Mission and is an old converted church. They serve Pan-American food. I didn’t take any food porn pictures but we had a Cobb salad and tacos. I had a mango iced tea, too. It was good! The Mission was also one of the stops on the Underground Railroad back in the 1800’s. If you ask they will take you downstairs to show you where the people would stay on their way further north and freedom.

The Kid and some ::shudder:: art!! :rotfl2:

We headed to the mall after that to find a summer-y nail color for pedicures. I got it in my head that I wanted something really summery and bright. On my hands I either go really light or really dark but for a pedicure—anything goes! Right now I have a dark brown, nearly black and the Kid as a French pedicure. On our trip in a few weeks we are hoping to spend a little time on the beach so I wanted something appropriate. The color we got was a reddish orange. Not exactly what I had in mind but it will do.

We walked into the Disney store but didn’t buy anything. Didn’t even put any money on my gift card! They had buy one get one free plush toys. The Kid wanted this huge Eeyore but we didn't get it. They had some G Force stuff, too. We were running out of steam by that time. Stopped at Starbucks for some sustenance and then went home.

I was reading Mousejunkies and put it down for a few minutes and this is what happened..

Sounds like another fun filled weekend for you guys.

Yeah, we did, for the most part. I think we lay around doing too much of nothing, tho. That is what the Kid wants to do but I feel the summer is way too short to waste!

I got my DVD for the cruise line the other day. I ordered it just so I could check it out further. I haven't had a chance to watch the entire thing but I did watch some of it. I kept telling the Kid, "I want a verandah room! I want a verandah room!". What I can't believe is that I have never wanted to go on a cruise before and now I seem obsessed!! I think it all has to do with Disney. I still have no desire to go on a non-Disney cruise. For some reason, I trust Disney.

They've marketed that well! ;)

You haven't made it to the cruise part of Mousejunkies, have you? ;)

I love all your planning and purchases so far.. Count me in!! popcorn:: We were gonna go see G-force last friday night but we endede up seeing the ugle truth with Gerald bulter.

OMG YES!! It was hysterical! I was reading parts of it out loud to the Kid because it was just so funny! Not for the writer, of course!! What scares me is that he said he doesn't normally get seasick! I don't get seasick, either, but he doesn't and then did....:scared1: But he said that it felt different then regular seasickness and maybe it was some kind of bug. Fingers crossed! :rotfl: A few years back I went on a whale watching trip out of Plymouth, MA with my mother and a couple of nephews. We probably shouldn't have gone out because it was raining and once we passed the break wall the sea got really choppy. They wouldn't let us stand on the deck because it wasn't safe. Before we started the trip there was just us and one other family (who, surprisingly, were from the same town as us!) and then a tour bus pulled up with Japanese tourists. By the time we got to where the whales were feeding nearly every single person on the boat was sick. I mean SICK! Over the side of the boat, in the bathroom, in garbage cans....:scared1: My youngest nephew had taken Dramamine and was fine, his brother took half a Dramamine and looked a little shell shocked but never got sick. My mother, on the other hand, was praying for death! I happened to have a plastic bag in my purse and she was using that. She bonded with the Japanese lady who was sharing her table. They'd slightly lift their heads off the table periodically and nod at each other. :guilty: Wouldn't you know it--there were a TON of whales out! Because they were feeding they were all near the surface. My nephew was telling my mother, "Grandma, just lift your head a little!" so that she could say she saw a whale. I never got sick and I didn't take the Dramamine. So, I am hoping my cast iron stomach will serve me well on a cruise!! I mean if I can withstand that rocky boat ride and being cooped up in a room with such an incredible smell then I should be able to withstand anything, right? :) (BTW, we laugh about this story now and it has become family lore!)

Hi Raecheal! Nice to see you! :wave2: How was The Ugly Truth? Worth it or wait for DVD? I still haven't seen Up, yet. I want to see Julie and Julia next month. I do like going to the movies!!

Monday again and another weekend shot to all heck!! :sad1: No Disney stuff accomplished this weekend other then surfing the Dis! Amazing how those dining reports make me want to try food I’d never even considered in the past! :scared1:

Anyway…

Took a small trip yesterday with the Kid and a friend to visit the Seward House. I had never been before even tho I live about fewer than 45 minutes away. I love places like this and while I should have learned about William Seward in 7th grade New York State history I don’t remember hardly a thing except that he had something to do with Alaska! (And 2 months ago then-governor Sarah Palin visited Auburn and the Seward House to celebrate Alaska’s 50th anniversary of statehood.

I love visiting the homes of historical figures—makes me feel like I am experiencing a part of their life, too. What is cool about the Seward House is that it was owned by 4 generations of Sewards before being turned into a museum. Which means that there were no other families that lived in the house. So many places I visit have passed thru many hands so to get it back to near it’s original state a lot of work has to be done usually thru looking at photos and reading journals. The Sewards saved EVERYTHING so everything in the house was original. I forgot my camera which bothered me. No pictures could be taken inside the house but still…!

I snagged these from the website! One of the people who helped build the house was a 16 year old Brigham Young! Six presidents visited the house, the house was a stop on the underground railroad, Seward sold land to Harriet Tubman (her house is up the road)…a ton of history is in this house!! The grounds and gardens were nice. (Didn’t have my camera! Grrr!) It was a pleasant afternoon! And, as I usually do, whenever something interests me I start researching and reading about it. I have a book coming from Amazon about Lincoln’s cabinet of which William Seward was Secretary of State. :)

Thanks for visiting my PTR! I read through yours and I'm really enjoying it so far!

Like you, I am absolutely terrified of roller coasters!!! And also like you, it took me awhile to get up the nerve to go on BTMRR, but I'm so glad I did because I LOVE IT! It is probably my favorite ride!

Hi! :welcome: My fav ride is Star Tours but BTMRR comes in a close second! Can you believe it took THREE trips before I would try it?? :confused3 I took my then 5 year old nephew on it and the now 18 year old still accuses me of trying to kill him!! :lmao:

I don't think I have seen any movies that Katherine Heigal has been in. I've seen a few of Gerard Butler's and he looks really funny in this one! I see you have a Cullen disorder! Me, too! I love me some Edward but I am partial to Jasper!!

Great history lesson kind of weekend. I have recently been to the Biltmore Mansion in North Carolina and that was fairly interesting to learn about. Funny thing, I really don't know much about William Seward either, but I used to fish in Seward, Alaska every summer for about 4 or 5 years that we live there as I grew up. I am sure it is named for him.

For sure it was! Seward is probably best known for his acquisition of Alaska from the Russian's when he was Secretary of State! It was called Seward's Folly because people thought he was nuts to want to buy Alaska! Russia was hurting for money, he got it a a good price--just over 7 million and made that money back in under 10 years with logging and fishing! Who knew?! How cool that you lived there!! I'm a little embarrassed that I knew so little about him when he was a NYS govenor, state senator, ran for president, and became Secretary of State under Lincoln and Johnson! Guess I wasn't paying attention during that lesson!!

I've heard about the Biltmore Mansion--I bet it's beautiful! I love visiting places like that!!

This is too funny. I live on The Cape and had a friend come out to visit from Nebraska. One must do while she was here was to go on a whale watch. Of course the day we went was overcast, no rain, but chilly (considering it was June). She got sick, my daughter got sick and A LOT of other people got sick. SICK, sick! Same story, everyone was fine until we got out to where the whales were, then it got NASTY choppy!

Also - I was asked by the family I nanny'd for if I was interested in going to WDW and HECK YES I jumped on that! I was OVER THE TOP excited! Once your DN gets a glimpse of those signs I am sure she will be ALLLLLLL about it again :)

Can't wait to hear more :surfweb:

I LOVE Cape Cod! I haven't been since I was a teenager, tho. We always talked about going back but it gets pretty crowded in the summer. So, we started vacationing on the coast of Maine instead--still crowded but not as bad as the Cape. You are so lucky!!

Not much has been going on so I haven't much to post. No Disney stuff has been done other than make another payment on my room reservation. Still have a ways to go and that's just on the ROOM! :scared1: Having the Kid with me this summer puts a real cripe on the cash flow! She INSISTS on eating! Go figure! ;)

We went to the movies on Saturday to see "Julie and Julia". I thought it was good. The movie was based on two books--Julie and Julia by Julie Powell and My Life in France by Julia Child. I read both of them and as we were walking out of the movies I was filling in the Kid on some of the stuff they didn't show. I am sure she appreciated it.

We did a little bit of school shopping for her. I usually buy her school clothes for her it's just that with this WDW trip and money being tight we have to keep a keen eye out for bargains. She got a couple shirts, a pair of pants, a pair of shorts to wear for gym and a pair of shoes. That's a start! :cutie:

Last night I met with my friends to discuss our camping trip next week. I don't know if I explained about how and why this trip came about. I am a service unit manager in Girl Scouts. A service unit is a geographical area within a council and each one has a manager. Makes the council's job a little easier to have someone keeping an eye on things in their area. My area covers the school district I live in. My service unit has a team--someone is a registrar helping with registering troops, someone handles the cookie sale, someone helps start up new troops, etc. I have been SUM for 8 years now and last year was the first year that I had a team that actually worked well together. We all get along very well. They are a bunch of dedicated, generous women! Back in the winter I had found out thru a leader in Maine about a little girl that was going to drop out of GS because her family couldn't afford it. The leader was upset because her SU wouldn't do anything to help this girl. I mentioned this to my team and before you knew it a package was going out with a uniform, books, money etc for this girl! The leader was appreciative, couldn't believe we'd do such a thing for someone we hadn't met before and mentioned if we even visited Maine she'd be happy to show us around. She also mentioned a camp not far from her. That kind of put a bug in our bonnets! Why NOT take a trip to Maine and stay at the camp?? So, I looked into it and now here we are 9 days away from our trip to GS camp in Maine!! We're all (there are seven of us and they are all brnging their daughters so there will be 16 of us in all) going at different times. I am going up on Thursday and spending a night in NH so I can visit the ocean. We are coming back on Monday. We met last night to go over a menu and equipment. If anything, this ought to be interesting!! :upsidedow

I wouldn't consider myself lucky, I have to deal with TRAFFIC! A trip to the doctor that would normally take me 15 minutes, I can easily count on it taking me 30, if not 45 - and that is with taking back roads. I was born and raised here (going 14 generations back!) and this is home, always will be. I can deal with a lil bit of crazy for a few months in the summer and then my beloved peninsula goes back to being "ours." I love the quietness and crispness of a cool Autumn day here. Maybe you could plan an off season trip. You can still head to the beach and look for seashells, but swimming probably wouldn't be in your best interest! When my friends from Nebraska inquire when they should plan a visit out here I tell them: Memorial Day thru Labor Day are off limits!

I can just imagine the traffic! :scared1: But, being your home, you probably know when to expect it and plan accordingly! I would love to experince some of that quietness! I will have to consider an off season trip! It really isn't that far from my home in Central New York.

that is amazing! A camping trip in Maine! Dont tell my GS's they will be jealous :rotfl:

I was feeling pretty down last week thinking about how I am going to pay for this trip to Disney. I had planned to make payments on the room every month since March and have that paid off by September but, of course, life got in the way. :sad2: It is almost September and I still have about 2.5 more payments to make. And that doesn’t count transportation, tickets or food! It really does suck working for a non-profit! The money just isn’t there for regular workers and to make matters worse, because of the economy, we had to take a cut in pay. So, while people get excited when their tickers get down to four months—I was panicking!! :scared1: I just want to be in a happy place even if it is for a little while. Is that too much to ask?? :confused3

But I did have a little bit of good news—if anyone read my first few posts on the PTR that I accidentally posted in the TR then you might remember that the government check I had planned to use for our transportation had expired. :( Had sent it back in May and heard nothing. I sent another letter a couple weeks ago and on Saturday I got a letter saying they were reissuing the check! YAHOO!! :cool1: That is a bit of luck on my side!! :thumbsup2

So, I am feeling a little bit better right now!

As for right now….we’ve finally hit upon HOT weather. People are saying, “Summer is finally here!”. Uh, NO! Summer doesn’t mean only 90 degree weather! We have had a lot of rain which I could do without but we still had temps in the 70’s and 80’s. My perfect weather is 72 and sunny. Then I am a happy camper! :beach: After two days of near 90 and 90 degree weather with humidity I am ready for fall!

So, the Kid and I hit the mall on Saturday to see “Bandslam” which was pretty okay. We picked up a couple school supplies and a shirt, bra and underwear for school. We went to AC Moore to pick up for more face painting supplies and a quick trip into Old Navy to get her a pair for the $19 jeans. (I am trying to be good with the school shopping and getting things on SALE!)

Sunday my Girl Scout troop (or most of them) worked at a local company’s employee picnic. We’ve been doing this for about four years now. The girls face paint and are the company’s mascot. I was worried this year because the mascot’s costume is very padded and with the temps going near 90 I had to be sure the girls were okay. We had 5 people rotate as the mascot and no one fainted! And no one got tipped! Although, the Kid did tilt her head back too far and nearly toppled over! As the day went on, it just got more and more humid. I was a sheet of sweat and I wasn’t even in the costume! It is a nice picnic and the girls enjoy doing it. They give us tee shirts and we can help ourselves to the food. We were glad when it was over, tho! Until next year!

Have fun in Maine!!! And dont worry about your trip - you will find a way! You still have time, the last 3 months before our trip was considered crunch time, no ordering out, no splurging on unnecessary items, no grabbing Tim Hortons on the way to work, we really saved every penny and it was so worth it. It was hard but I'd do it all over again for another vacation.
