Will my wife barf?

I get car sick, air sick, everything sick except seasick on DCL.. My DM is also very sensitive and does take medication prior to a cruise. In the 6 cruises she's been on she's done quite well (and she will yark at the drop of a hat). So I'd say, bring medication, don't be afraid to use it, but it might not be an issue.

I get motion sickness on larger boats...its when the movement is so subtle that it throws my equilibrium off. I got sick TIED TO THE DOCK!! in Miami. Then we hit rough seas and I was great while many other passengers were sick.

I think the bottom line is there are meds to help with sea sickness, so if you want to go on a cruise...go...take the meds if you feel sick...all will be fine.

How about those who get car sick, air sick, altitude sick, sick on thrill rides. ... Can't not live your life just limiting yourself to land-based, close to home vacays. That's no fun (take it from me)!

That would be me!! I get car sick if there is no air flow, altitude sick hiking at 14,000 feet (and started blacking out), sick on Space Mountain, only sick once of on a plane (and I was in the first row, if Im middle Im fine)...heck I got sick in a hammock. But I live my life, travel and do it all and deal with the issues when they come up...

I asked my doctor for Ondansetron ODT (Oral Dissolving Tablet) [generic Zofran] It works very quickly and tastes like baby Tylenol. It was very helpful for me, and I only needed it twice.

You betcha! Can't let it keep us down!! :thumbsup2

(Except Space Mountain, I learned my lesson last time on that one ).

She may barf, hopefully not.
Bonine doesn't work for everyone. Take Dramamine too.
The majority of people are fine with the subtle movement of the ship on normal sea days. If it gets rough and you hit big swells anybody can get sick, even people that don't normally get sick may get sick. Even the crew gets sick. The meds don't work once your seasick so it's important to take them on a regular basis to prevent sea sickness.
My mother in law gets terrible motion sickness. She got so sick on California Screaming at Disneyland the paramedics were called to get her off the ride. True story. We'll never let her forget it. LOL. She takes bonine on cruises and is fine. It works well for some people.

I had the same concern so we booked a 3 night cruise on the Dream so that if I was sick, I wouldn't have to suffer for a week-long cruise. I started taking Bonine every 12 hours 2 days before the cruise and continued through the cruise and for two days after. I did feel a little sick a few times, but I was able to stand on the deck or on our balcony and feel the breeze and that helped. The first day was the worst. I could definitely feel the motion of the ship like some others have mentioned. Get a mid-ship room with a veranda.

I get motion sickness fairly easily - most boats, can't read in cars, some videos, etc. A cruise was never on my vacation bucket list, but it's on my husbands. I too have listened to one too many people that have cruised before and told me - you'll be fine, it's a moving city, you don't notice the motion at all. While I was skeptical, I thought well maybe. Now, I am getting very worried. I plan on getting Bonine as recommended on here and might try sea bands along with it. We're midship with a veranda. I insisted on a veranda just in case I need to sleep out there. lol

I hope I don't get sick.

She needs to take Bonnie regularly, starting a couple of hours before she boards. The first night will be the roughest, unless you encounter a tropical system. Staying mid-ship in a verandah room helps a lot. I also keep peppermint essential oils on hand to sniff or dab under the nose to ward off nausea.
Ask her doctor for an anti-emitic for if she does get sick, and bring on Dramamine just in case she does need to sleep it off.

I get car sick. I can't go on teacup rides. I am ok with crazy roller coasters as long as there's no spinning. I can do Expedition Everest twice in a row only. I would feel sick if I go one more time. I was really sick on my first cruise with Carnival staying on a lower deck where there was only a tiny porthole in the stateroom. I was breastfeeding at the time and didn't want to take any med. The wristband didn't work at all. I was miserable. I stayed in the stateroom with my baby most of the time feeling sick. I thought no more cruising for me.

Of course, Disney came to the rescue! I have been on 4 Disney cruises: Bahamas, Med and Alaska. I have not gotten sick on any of them (even on really rocky water once). I always have ginger Gravol on hand just in case. Motioneaze works amazingly well and you apply it behind your ears once you feel sick. I didn't feel well after a helicopter ride on the Alaskan cruise, and after feeling sick for the whole afternoon, I then realized it's motion sickness and felt better after applying Motioneaze.

I do always book a verandah room midship just in case. Cruising is fun and your wife shouldn't let seasickness stop her from exploring the cruising world, especially with Disney. I am glad I gave cruising a second chance, but who can say no to a Disney cruise! I had to give it a try and now I am hooked!

I am prone to motion sickness.....I have only gotten seasick twice in 17 cruises and both were in rough waters on the west coast.
Never in the Caribbean.
I always carry meclizine with me, just in case.

I get sick from everything- boats, rides, cars, airplanes, swing sets. It's ridiculous. I didn't cruise for years due to fear of being miserable the whole time. Now I can't get enough of cruising. This is what I do and haven't gotten sick once since doing this:
Bonine every night before bed
Eat green apple every day and if I feel even the slightest bit like the motion is starting to bother me (recommended by the crew and was amazed at how fast it will calm my stomach)
Have available if I think I need a little extra help (like small boat on choppy water, ride roller coasters back to back)
Ginger gum
Quesy beads
These are simple, I don't have side effects or drowsiness and it lets me enjoy all the things I want to do. For the majority of people it's totally manageable, just stay ahead of it rather than the wait and see approach.

We did the Dream 3 day last week. Friday night was very rocky, I kept saying to my husband, " Never again will I sign up for a cruise!"while trying to keep my dinner in my tummy.

Things settled overnight and we had a great trip. Yeah, we signed up for another cruise while onboard...

We had the same thought on the first night of our first cruise. The first night on the Dream is rough without meds or ginger pills! But with sea sickness meds, we are perfect. :)

Yes, but the good news is everyone feels better after barfing!

I am sensitive to motion on a ship, regardless of its size, so I prefer to prevent seasickness rather than treat it after I feel sick. I buy a bottle of 100 chewable Meclizine tablets at the Sam's Club Pharmacy for less than $10, as that's the main ingredient in Bonine and Non-Drowsy Dramamine. However, even though it's supposed to be a non-drowsy formula, it still makes some people sleepy.

I wanted to try a more natural seasickness remedy on my Caribbean cruise 3 weeks ago out of Ft. Lauderdale, so I also brought ginger capsules. I took those once, and they gave me heartburn! Since the seas weren't very rough - I tried to go without taking any medication. I needed the Meclizine only one day. :)
