We purchased several underwater cameras the disposible kind, will the film be ok in checked bags? We usually just use digital so I have never traveled with film before.

TIA

No. Do not check any film!

Your checked luggage will be xrayed. The xrays are much stronger then those used as for hand luggage and will ruin the film.

Do I need to have them hand checked or can they go through in my carry on?

Thanks again,

If they are not a really fast film (like 800) and they are not going to be going thru the hand luggage scaqnner, they should be OK according to the TSA site.

Most of the underwater cameras are loaded with 800 speed film. Best to have them handchecked, both ways. I always have all film hand checked, because the scan effects are cumulative. You have no idea how many times they may have been scanned before you bought them.
TSA is for safety, they don't do film.

I put them in a ziploc and will have them hand checked. The speed is 800 - so I figure better safe then sorry.

Thanks again,

Gotta go finish packing!
