Will my 8 (almost 9) year old still enjoy Akerhaus

Last year we took my daughter to CRT and she loved it! However she seems to have grown up so much in the last few months. She doesn't seem to like the "princess" thing any more. She is into Hannah Montana, Selena Gomez.... Do you think she will like the Akerhaus or am I wasting my time/money? Should I pick different restaurant? I know that some adults still love the Princess dining, but my daughter seems to be entering the "I'm too cool for princesses" tween stage. I should mention that she is still very "girlie" (sp) - likes pink, sparkles.....

My DD is ten now. When she was 6-7 she loved the Princesses, as I knew she would. Like your DD, when she was 8-9, she became less interested in the Princesses, and was much more into Hannah and HSM. However, at WDW, she INSISTED on going to BBB, getting made up as a princess, and loved meeting the Princesses again.

We're going again this spring, and when we asked if there's any particular restaurants she wants to go to, she said CRT.

And, she was far from the only girl in her age group (or boy, for that matter) who was excited when the Princesses came around.

You know your DD better than anyone, but I'll bet that once she's there she'll be excited to have her picture taken with them.

If you think your daughter is entering a phase in her life where she might not appreciate the Princess character meal experience, then maybe you should be looking for something more age-appropriate for her, like Hoop-Dee-Doo or 'Ohana.

You could always ask her what she thinks first, of course.

The problem with asking is that DD probably wouldn't know, as she'd never been there. She might THINK she is too old for it, and then love it once there. This is commone for pre-teens (and teenagers, also).

If you think DD will love it, I'm sure she will.

My DD who is the same age as yours still loves going to Akershus for breakfast. I just asked her why she likes it and her response was "they have very good food". I went on to ask if she still liked the Princesses and she said yes but she really likes the food, the Princesses are just a bonus (plus she is big into tradition and Akershus breakfast, before the park opens, on our very first Disney morning, is a huge tradition in our family). My DD9 too loves Hannah Montanna, Salena Gomez, and any other Disney Channel star out there, but when we are in Disney she is more than happy to have a meal with Royalty :goodvibes.

I think so, if she takes in the whole experience. I personally think the inside of the restaurant is really pretty, more "regal" looking than I thought it would be. My older DD went when she was a little older because my younger DD wanted to go, and the princesses were wonderful with her...talked to her in an age appropriate way and had her conversing and smiling away. I think that even though your DD's interests might be changing doesn't mean she'd be too old to do the princess meal.

When I started asking my family about dining the first place my DS 14 said was CRT DD 10 chimed in saying "yeah that's the best place ever!" She doesn't wear a lot of girly stuff but loves everything Disney. (like her mom) She will not wear princess shirts unless she is at Disney World (haahaa)

I think your DD will enjoy it. Hope you have fun! :)

My 10yo DD is very girly but has not wanted to do a princess meal at Akerhaus since age 7. She loved it when she was a preschooler, early elem. but by 7 she was on to Tink and High School Musical, Hanna Montana etc... However the other character meals with Mickey etc. she still loves!! She even did the Playhouse Disney one at age 8 for her little bro with no complaints and even danced it up with Leo!

However this is the funny thing I think if I made a reservation for CRT she would go in an instant just b/c its the CASTLE!!! :confused3

I think she will love it. As a matter of fact, chances are you will like too. It's always different at Disney... we alll become kids.

I'm 42 and I love seeing the princesses. If you ask her, she'll probably say she doesn't want to go. Just take her, and I bet she'll be excited and the little girl in her will be happy you went.

So, you're saying that even if the OP asked her daughter, and she said that she is no interested in going at all, she should still make the reservation, anyway?

Seems pretty disrespectful to the kid, and a tad selfish. If you ask, and get a response contrary to what you expected, I think maybe you should honor those wishes instead of dragging along a kid who may or may not be in for the experience.

Not at all. I'm suggesting to not ask at all, and just tell DD that the family is going, and she'll enjoy it. In my experience, as a parent, I often have a better idea of what my pre-teen would like more than she does. I would NOT say, "it's up to you" and then make the decision for her, regardless of what she says. That would be hurtful.

In short, 8-9 year olds do not make good tour guides, even for other 8-9 yr olds. Yes, if DD wants to ride a certain ride a 2nd time, that would be fine. Would I let DD ride the same ride all day at WDW? No.
