Will MK Train return this year?

Now that Peoplemover is opening I am wondering if there are any rumors in when the railroad will reopen?
It's been like 2 years. The Railroad is a vital part of MK and should be running.
The People Mover and the railroad were not running for different reasons. The people mover was down during the shut-down and apparently suffered from the inactivity. It took a lot of work to get it back in service.

The railroad was down even before the shutdown IIRC because of the construction of Tron. As long as the construction is on-going the RR will remain down for safety reasons.

They also had to remove part of the RR tracks due to the construction. I know I saw some photos of them beginning to re-lay the track, but I don’t know how far along they are. Of course, the train can’t run if there are gaps in the track so we know they won’t make any announcements before the track is finished. I didn’t notice any of the videos from the Peoplemover pointed down enough to tell if the track was still missing or not.

You could just run the train in reverse and not a full circle.
Disney can get the train up if they want to.

The Train was always a nice ride to take in mid afternoon when everyone was getting tired and needed a break, sometime even took it twice around the park. My opinion is it will be opened late this year. They are working on Tron but not exactly trying to set any speed records for completing.

In addition, the train eats people. Re-distributing them around the park as I would guess many don't stay on board for the full circuit. Returning to queues in another section. One of those intangibles, no one buys a MK ticket to ride it, but we make it a point to ride when there. Would not get marks on a survey, but would be missed if taken away permanently. Hope it comes back!

My memory is the train was run in "shuttle mode" during one of the construction projects. I think it was either Fantasyland expansion or initial construction of Mickeys Birthaday land (forgot the right name)

I'd be surprised if Disney opens train in any capacity until Tron

But you could only run one train.... which would really limit the capacity. And while I know the train can go backwards, not sure Disney's "cars" are really designed to do that continually? Could cause maintenance issues the pushing rather than pulling.

In the end, it's just like the fireworks. They can do it but they just want to save a ton of money.

I don't think Disney wants to bother. You could run more then 1. Not sure of the exact construction site. Run a train counterclockwise. Last stop, all off is Fantasyland. Empty train continues then stops. After second or third train empties at Fantasyland. Guests are loaded for the return. The question is how many trains can park between Fantasyland Station and end of tracks at Tron.

You could run a train with engine at each end.

Sadly its increasingly apparent that Disney would rather have the locomotives and rolling stock be static displays at Today's WDW Mall.

As many commuter railroads do to reduce turn around time, I'm a train nut and well riding the train and liberty belle are my two favorite activities in the MK rest of family well not so much but they have other favorites and we dont believe in mandatory togetherness but we all have some common favorites that we ride together and then we break out and do our personal favorites and gather for lunch/dinner also together.

Yes Disney COULD run the train unfortunately for us executives get bigger bonuses when it's not running.

As for train nuttery - well I have done this, But I have my 'WDW Monorail Pilot License' too

Yes I actually got to operate a steam locomotive, and I want to do it again.

For the really interested - here is an article on 'How to Boot a Steam Locomotive' really long read but a must read for the train obsessed

Oh' I've bought a ticket just to ride the train and do the backstage tour of the locomotive facilities.

This was when Splash Mountain was under construction, the train ran back and forth between Main Street and Mickey's Birthdayland. So yes, Disney could certainly be running it right now if they wanted to.

My assumption is the train will start running again about the time Tron opens. Based on photos people took from the Peoplemover yesterday, the track is still missing and I doubt would be built until the attraction is nearly finished.

You know, a couple of years ago I took my mom on Expedition Everest and she totally freaked out at the top, screaming like a maniac! I asked her why and she said that she really thoguht the track was all messed up - knowing that it was "show" of course, but not really being able to recognize it in the moment. I guess the Imagineers did their jobs well!

That's why they paid Joe Rohde 'The Earring' the big bucks, And I'd say he earned every nickle of his salary.

Am I the only one who thinks that a huge ride called "Tron" seems really out of place in that section of Magic Kingdom? Why didn't they put it in Epcot? Future World could really use another headliner. Instead, they're putting it in a part of MK where it doesn't go with the theming, and in the process, they've shut down the wonderful train, which is one of the unique highlights of the park.
Tomorrow land is out of place for Tron? Really!
