Will Matthew effect crowds next week?

First let me say that crowds at Disney after the storm is absolutely nothing in the face of what some might encounter during this storm. Life and property are obviously the most important.

However I am curious if anyone has been after a storm and noticed a difference? We arrive Sunday. I'm wondering if there will be food at the groceries and if the parks might be more/less crowded in the wake of the storm.

I think a hurricane passing anywhere near the area is bound to affect attendance.

I am an Orlando local and I am actually heading off to Disney Springs this morning! As locals, when a hurricane hits Florida...we all head to Disney World. In Orlando, you will not see empty grocery stores. This really only would affect the beaches, about an hour from Orlando. The crowds will be a little lighter at the parks, because people will cancel and postpone their vacations, due to the storm. One of our fav times to visit Disney is right during a tropical storm or hurricane! :)

Yes, but I'm also wondering if everyone who was going this week might go next, land bound cruise passengers might chose the parks as an option, etc.

Thanks! Glad to know about the groceries. We are driving, so we are bringing some food, but wasn't sure what to expect. Stay safe!!

I think it will make it less crowded. Many are canceling. Some may reschedule for next week, but I think more will push it out further than next week

Absolutely. After Frances, the parks were empty. Frances, however, closed the parks for two days.

we went to 3 different Publix and Target last night and they were all completely out of water. Other shelves didn't seem too bare but I didn't look closely in all honesty.

We are supposed to fly out a week from tomorrow Oct 13, will this storm close the parks and resorts down long term, thru and past the next few weeks?

WDW parks have never closed longer than two days regarding a single hurricane. The resorts don't close. Matthew will be long gone by October 13. Unless there is major damage it will be business as usual by then.

Next week is going to be super busy! Unless there are a ton of airline cancellations I doubt the weather is going to be a factor on crowd levels.

Some models are actually predicting that Matthew could come back. It's a possibility, nobody knows for sure about tomorrow much less that far out.

Bring any supplies you may need with you since you are driving. You more than likely won't find them in the Orlando area.

I heard it as well, that it could circle back and hit again. At first I thought it was a joke, but apparently one model has that happening. Unlikely, but something to watch.

We went after Hurricane Irene. We drove out of NJ as she was around Maryland. WDW was pretty low crowds once we got there. Very sunny and it barely rained.

I've been chasing storms to get a lower crowd for a long time and absolutely there will be lower crowds for awhile after the storm. Now this one is interesting as many could afford to get in 1 day earlier and it's going to be out of the way for sunday/monday when a lot of peopel normally arrive as well. There will be some low crowd days but the question is how many so use them to your advantage because once the bubble bursts then your also looking at higher than normal crowds with people that rescheduled instead of canceled.

We're due to fly out of PHL on Wed., Oct 12, no plans to change unless forced by the weather. We'll have to re-think our plan for a Publix stop before hitting the Board Walk but we will have a rental car (hopefully).
