Will I need to provide my own shampoo?

Our first DVC trip is next month:):cool1: I know that we get housekeeping at day 4 and that they replace the shampoo. How large is the bottle that is proved at check in? I am traveling with my DH, and 2 sons. I figure we will take 2 showers each per day due to the heat and the swimming. We are ordering from garden grocer, so I can have shampoo delivered if you think we may run out. Thanks!

How many bathrooms are in your room? The larger the unit the more shampoo you will get. I have asked for and received more with no charge but technically I think you are supposed to be charged for extra. If 4 of you will take 2 showers per day, you might be wise to get a bottle of shampoo just to be safe.
Have a great trip!

We are in a studio at SSR. When you say typical hotel bottle, I think of the size that only lasts us 1 day or so....about 3 inches high and not even an inch in diameter. Are the DVC larger than that?

No - they are the same size you would find in any Disney room. You need to bring some of your own.

I have asked the maids cleaning rooms for extra ones and they have always given them to me.

Please don't do that. That cost just gets passed on to the membership. There are no freebies with DVC membership.

In the past I could get by without bringing any.

During our June stay at BLT the bottles were significantly smaller than our previous trips. I was very happy that I decided to bring some from home.

The new "Tinkerbell" bottles may be a little smaller in size, but they actually hold the same amount of liquid as the old bottles. The old and new bottles both hold 1.25 fl oz (37mL).

We liked that the new bottles had flip caps, too.

I hope you are joking. That's silly.

If you need extra just ask one of the cleaning people in the hall way and give them a couple of bucks and they will glady give it to you. In the past I have called the front desk for some and when they deliver it I give them a tip.

No that is not silly. With the decision for limited housekeeping to save cost, supplying personal items was limited also. They are suppose to charge so the all the members are not paying for it, only the members who use the need extra. So when you do that you are asking others to pay for items you should be.

Remember, being on a timeshare stay is different than being there on a hotel stay...we pay for everything, including all those supplies that are provided...so, while you may not be paying for them other than the tip you provide the housekeeper, the cost to re-order those supplies is added in to the MF's for that resort.

Well then I'm doing my part to save on dues. You can have mine, I never use the stuff. Always bring my own. :)

It doesn't make sense to me to worry about an extra bottle of shampoo. Some people use more heat or air conditioning than others. Some reuse towels or forego trash and towel altogether. Some people take more showers and use more hot water. Some plug in tons of mobile devices and use more electricity and bandwidth on wifi. Some use the upper limit of occupancy for rooms and put more wear and tear on rooms and use more of everything. I always ask for an extra bar of soap to keep at the kitchen sink to encourage hand washing. Can't we give each other a little slack here? JMHO.

We don't make the rules. If DVC only allowed so much electricity, you'd bet we'd be paying for any extra. They have thermostats that reduce electricity costs by warming up during summer months when there is no one in the villa and cool it down during winter months for the same reason.

Otherwise don't complain when annual fees go up.

I promise, cross my heart, never to complain about an increase in dues if someone asks for and receives an extra bottle of shampoo and is not charged for it. That also goes for a bottle of conditioner or gel or a bar of soap. If someone asks for and gets an extra coffee or a box of laundry detergent and is not charged, I still will not complain. Promise. And if I am given more than the allotted number of towels in my room (this seems to happen often to us), I intend to use them without paying extra, so I will not complain if others also get extra towels and use them without additional charge.

I'm gonna hold you to that, Jean.

I bring my own too..I just think its important that people recognize that nothing is free with a timeshare. There are members out there I am sure that don't realize we pay for those out of the dues.
