will I need my marriage licence to get a passport

title says it all, will I need my marriage licence to get a passport? I have done a search and did not find the answer I called our local post office /passport office to see they seemed unsure . I have my Birth Cert. and a valid drivers licence.

I didn't need my marriage liscense to get my passport renewed (original was in maiden name). I did take it with my on our honeymoon because my now husband didn't know to book the cruise in my maiden name so I took it to connect my passport and DL with the name on the cruise and plane reservations. I had no problems

Magic (9/4/04-9/11/04, actually 9/7/04-9/11/04), (9/17/05-9/24/05)
Fantasy (4/21/12-4/28/12)

I am pretty sure my wife needed one especially since the name on her license didn't match the name on her birth certificate.

Same here.
We've been married so long I had nothing to even show/prove I was that person on the birth certificate!..since my DL ofcourse has my married last name. so yeah- I had to show birth certificate, DL, and marriage license that shows I'm both the person on birth certificate as well as the person on my driver's license. Same person, name changed thru marriage. LOL

I have only ever had a Texas driver's license - so do not know if other states style your name differently on the licenses. But here, for women - your name is styled First name / Maiden name / Last name. When I called the passport office to see if I would need my marriage license, I was told not for first timers - that they can connect the dots as my maiden name is on my driver's license. But I would need it if I wanted to change the name on an existing passport.

In 2003, DH and I took our honeymoon on the Wonder. I cruised under my maiden name as I had no legal documentation of the name change (we cruised the day after our wedding). In addition, I had my passport with my maiden name, so it was easier. When I went to get my passport in my married name, I showed my DL and birth certificate...I had my marriage certificate with me, but they didn't need it. I went to our local county office for my passport (in the county we were married in), so if they needed it, they could look it up. When you obtained your DL, you probably had to show your marriage certificate at that time, so with that government ID, you should be good with your birth certificate to get your passport. Good luck!
