Hello all prayers and hopes to all FL residents....Changed my week from 9/12 (GO AWAY IVAN) to 9/19 but got bumped to OKW for a few nights.....what will I love about this resort (especially since the pool is closed):<...thanks in advance for your help.

In a rush this morning but I wanted to let you know there are 3 additional pools at OKW including one that has a snack bar and is roughly equivalent to the main pool.

I think you'll love OKW!

The thing I like best about staying at OKW is the sense of tranquility after a long day at the parks. I can unwind and relax to be prepared for the next day. . .

The size of the rooms! And as someone else mentioned, it is quite peaceful there. If you want to take a day to just relax, I think this is one of the best resorts to do that. As for the pools, there are the other quiet pools you can use, but why not take a nice walk over to SSR and check theirs out? If pool hopping is allowed then, that is.

True "home away from home" feel. A feeling of exclusivity -- being tucked away in your own little piece of WDW. Most visitors don't even know it's there.

Most peaceful resort. Crowd escape. (By some could be interpreted as boring, but not this WDW fan.) Gorgeous landscaping. Beautiful walks. Open spaces. Laid back hospitality house area.

Park at door.

Our favorite DVC. Even though the other resorts have more flashy stuff, our trips have always been better when we stay at OKW. Less anxiety. Kids less uptight. Unwound. I can't really put my finger on why that happens. Doubt it's coincidence, though.

Oh yeah, you can't reach refrigerator from balcony. Rich, we miss you.:sad1:We're carrying the torch.

My husband's favorite reason:

Park at the door!

But it's also great fun to rent a boat and take the leisurely trip down the river to DTD and POR/FQ

Great thread, we will be staying there for the first time Oct. 6-9th!!! We are a family of 6 and may get SPOILED by the spacious units!!!

We LOVE OKW! As others have mentioned, the tranquility of the resort, the beautiful landscaping, the relaxing feel of the resort all add up to make it our favorite. Parking at your door is so convenient, and the quiet pools are really nice. Also, if you like a "Florida" feel to your resort, this is the place to be. You might want to think about your building location though, depending on whether you have a car or not. If you don't have a car, you might prefer to be closer to the registration area.

I'd like to think there's a certain curmudgeonly spirit haunting the place now.

Living in the Big City(tm), we like the fact that you can park right out front and you can escape the hub-bub of the hotel resorts. We like the decor and the room size. We like the lack of long hallways. We like the fact everyone there almost always says Welcome Home. We like the fact that its not a magnet for tourists from other resorts and locals to pool crash. We like the fact that you can say OKW and not have people wonder if you mean the Hotel or the Villas. We like the balconies that fit more than 2 people. We like the fact that there is room for 12 people to fit in the living room/dining room. We like watching the golfers shank one into a tree. We like the fact that it almost always has something available.

I could go on, but I've got to do some real work sooner or later.

1. the overall atmosphere - relaxing and a true Key West fantasy!
2. the huge, beautifully themed rooms
3. The CM's at Conch Flats and checkin are wonderful
4. the marina - rent a boat and cruise down the Sassagoula to DTD or see PO
5. Parking right outside your room
6. the little Mickey icons in the picket fence (Anyone else just love these?)
7. The music piped throughout the resort
8. just a wonderful place to come home to after a day anywhere.

We're staying at VWL on our next trip (it's Christmas season and we are dying to see it then) and our home resort is SSR, but OKW is where we've stayed and probably where we'll try to get most of our future reservations. It is just fantastic!

I don't think we could stay in a 1br or 2br anywhere else on property. A studio, yes, if it were just the two of us, I'd like a room with the pullout couch for sitting space. But the layout of the living space in the 1 or 2 br units is just so much nicer than the other resorts; I don't think I could stand staying anywhere else. I think every muscle in my body just relaxes the minute I walk through the door. Love that OKW!
:bounce:

Of course. You'll be at WDW! That's reason enough for me!

The Balcony is awsome.
There is actually room to sit down and have a meal.

The only resort that has more (or even the same amount) of personal space outside, is the Ft Wilderness Cabins, and they don't have washers, dryers or whirlpool tubs.

Yes, I agree with you. And Rich will be sprinkling pixie dust on everyone that visits OKW so they have that WOW factor every time they park in front of their unit! And I'd like to think there will always be the faint smell of pig's feet cooking in every unit! ;)

Our first ever trip 'home' was to our home resort of OKW and it is what everyone is saying...nice and peaceful.

The spaciousness of the 1BR unit really surprised us. Even seeing the pictures beforehand did not do it justice.

Also, try brewing yourself a nice cup of coffee or tea or your favorite beverage and just sit on the balcony early in the morning. Ahhh... I can feel the relaxation already. :p

On our last trip, a friend joined us for a night in our 1 bedroom at OKW. She owns other time shares and travels ALL OVER THE WORLD for work. When she walked into the villa, her first words were "This is REALLY lovely". She joined a DVC a week later.

My husband and I are taking an extended trip to OKW in December. We have planned a lot of downtime into the trip and want to relax. I have a question about the studio. The pictures appear to show a smaller television in the OKW studio than in the studios at other resorts. Because of the relaxation time built in to our vacation and the fact that we enjoy television before bed, I am curious if this is true. Can anyone shine some light on the subject?
Thanks. :smooth:
