Will I get the "new" magic band?

I check in this Friday. Will I be getting the "new" magic band 2.0?
Not sure they are giving them out yet..

I got mine in the mail a few weeks ago, and my trip starts February 4. So they are definitely out there, and I would guess that they'll be giving those ones out in the parks as opposed to the old style.

I called Disney because I was curious as to which ones we were going to get for our resort reservation in March. I was told since I made the reservation prior to December 2016 that I would be getting the older version and not the 2.0. Only those who made reservations December 2016 and ongoing would be getting the newer version, and that it did not matter when you were taking your trip. if that makes sense. So a tad bit disappointing for us but not a huge deal.

I'm going to be there Jan. 28-31 and got my magic bands a couple weeks ago...they were the new ones. And I definitely booked my trip well before December 2016.

Crap seriously? I say that because I ordered some skins for our MB's and wanted to make sure which ones we would be getting before I placed our order. That's why I called.

You will likely have the MB 2.0. I booked my trip next week about 6 months ago and I received MB 2.0 in the mail the first week of January.

We received the new ones for our Feb 4th trip and we had tickets linked way before Dec 2016.

Yeah but this CM was very much direct in telling me that she understood because she had booked an upcoming trip before Dec and got the original ones also. IMO if they make it personal like that why wouldn't I believe them. Not saying that she's correct and you guys are wrong (obviously) but why would she add that in?

Call ten different times and you will get 10 different answers. I work in customer service and I say that the job is 10 percent truth and 90 made up crap. If you say something with enough confidence people will believe anything.

I booked my November trip last July. Will they really save two old models to give it to me by September? I don't think so.

That's definitely not right. I booked my room in March 2016 for our trip last week. Bought tickets in fall 2016 (since I booked my FPs the day after Thanksgiving). Received the new style MBs in the mail for our trip this weekend. You should be getting the new ones. Not to worry.

Yeah that seems to be the case as I have learned now. Too bad I already ordered our MB skins for 1.0. Note to self, phone CM's are like Disney bus drivers...noted lol. Oh well.

I don't know if this helps or not, since I've never used skins on any of mine, but the band itself is exactly the same size...it's just the center "puck" with the Mickey head on it that's wider.

Don't know if I care which we get but we made Board Walk ressies early Dec for a Nov 2 - 11 2017 stay with rented DVC points but we won't get our UT park passes until we're near the 60 day FP+ window so I guess we;ll have to wait and see.

You are picking them up at the resort? My understanding is it'll be more like Feb 2 check in dates when you pick them up at the resort when you start to get 2.0 bands. You'll be getting a 1.0 band but you never know it might be the first day they hand out 2.0s.

Ok stupid question here as I'm new to Magic Bands. But what's the difference between the old and new magic bands?

the shape and the new ones have a removable icon in the center which is the part that makes them work so you can buy accessories (not on sale yet) to change it into a keychain or similar. functionally they are the same and nothing to worry about if you get a 1.0, some prefer the shape of the 1.0 better.

You get Magic Bands when you have an onsite reservation; it has nothing to do with having tickets.
