Will I get the "new" magic band?

You are picking them up at the resort? My understanding is it'll be more like Feb 2 check in dates when you pick them up at the resort when you start to get 2.0 bands. You'll be getting a 1.0 band but you never know it might be the first day they hand out 2.0s.



the shape and the new ones have a removable icon in the center which is the part that makes them work so you can buy accessories (not on sale yet) to change it into a keychain or similar. functionally they are the same and nothing to worry about if you get a 1.0, some prefer the shape of the 1.0 better.

So, will there be any other functions that the new ones have that the old ones don't have? My DD is a huge little mermaid fan and the only one I see with Ariel on it is one of the older ones. If there no functional difference I might buy the old one.

Correct, there is no functional difference and you will not miss out on anything by getting the old style in a design she likes. Depending on how small her arms are, she might actually prefer to wear the old style.
