Will FP drop if I shorten onsite stay?

Apologies if this has been covered at length before. I've searched and couldn't find this exact information.

I'm staying at AoA with a friend. We booked room-only through Disney and then bought tickets through UndercoverTourist.

I had already booked our FPs 60 days out when my friend told me they'd actually like to stay offsite to help save money. I felt like they dropped a bomb on me - I love being in the Disney bubble! - but I wanted to be considerate.

Ultimately we agreed to an onsite/offsite split stay, but I haven't modified anything on MDE yet.

My question is, when I modify AoA to be a shorter stay, or even change the part of the stay we'd be onsite to an All Star to keep my friend's budget in mind, what happens to the FP selections? Do they get cancelled/dropped? I am within 30 days of our trip and I don't think shortening the onsite stay means I need to outright cancel my room-only reservation, I think it means I just have to modify it.

I believe you might lose any FP linked to days you don’t have a valid reservation onsite for. The period you will adjust the AoA room should be fine, anything outside the updated dates... good luck.

If you change to another resort, you keep your fastpasses. If you cancel, you lose them for the days you don't have a valid on site reservation. It really doesn't matter if you modify or cancel and re-book.

So shortening my trip would cancel my FP for the days I'm not onsite? Is this a for sure thing or speculated thing? I already have my 4 park day tickets in MDE if that helps.

If it does drop FP for the days I'm not onsite, since I'm within 30 days of my park ticket days, I can just choose from FP still available, right?

Even within 30 days it should drop those FP since you were taking advantage. Not sure it will.

It's been reported on here that the changes they made regarding this issue are in effect, so yes, a sure thing- or at least as sure as Disney ever gets. Park tickets don't matter. You have to have a on site stay to get the 60 day window and when you make FP's at 60 days, then cancel- you lose them. Waiting until you're inside the 30 day window no longer works. Yes, you would choose from what is available at 30 days and under just like all off site guests do.

Thanks Cake!

I appreciate you linking that other thread. The only difference I saw is that I’m keeping some nights on my reservation, whereas I think they cancelled everything to stay offsite entirely.

But based on that thread, it seems like I can expect to receive an email for the FPs made for the days I’m not onsite.

Hopefully it works out ok for me. There’s always rope dropping FOP :)

It really makes no difference whether you cancel part of your stay or all of it. The days you are not on site, you will have your fp’s cancelled. Lots of people split stays with a combo of off and on site, same rule still applies. But yes, you will receive notification that you’re losing them.

Honestly, I don't know how people do it. I would be so annoyed if someone pulled this on me after I had already made the fast passes.

personally I would keep my trip as planned and let them go offsite if they wish. My trips to Disney are once a year and I would be bummed out to be off site especially with all the planning done. A few years ago my sister came with us to Disney with us and I told her I'm staying onsite you can stay where you want. She ended up at AKL with us and her family loved it. Your a good friend to change your plans.
