Will DVDs/DVD Player Cook In The Heat??

We're driving to Pt. Canaveral next month to cruise on the Magic, DS will be entertaining himself in the car with a portable DVD player. Any reason to think the DVDs or the DVD player would be harmed by whatever heat may build up in a parked vehicle in the DCL lot at the port? I remember having audio cassettes or even VHS tapes warp from heat of a parked car. Arent the DVD's all digital and there isn't anything to get ruined? I'm trying to avoid having to lug the thing on board and back off when I know we're not going to use it on board.

If I'd gotten the built in DVD player for the vehicle like I decided not to do when we bought it, then that DVD player would have all the same parts and wouldn't get ruined by the heat, right? Anyone who can verify that right or wrong, or who knows what the deal is with DVDs and if they can be ruined in the heat, your input would be much appreciated.

In the Florida heat, in a parked car, there's no way I'd leave DVD's or VHS tapes in the car.

As for your pont abouit the DVD player, yes it would stand to reason that if an in-car DVD player can withstand the heat, then so would a portable.

But in-car DVD's are built to withstand some heat for this reason, the same may not be the case for the portable DVD players.

There's also the issue of theft.

My suggestion - just to be safe, bring it on board. You can always use it on the ship as well.

I don't think I would worry too much about the player, but the DVD's I would. They may warp from the heat similar to what a CD would.

My suspicion is that it will be fine in the trunk. I've left CD's in the car before (doesn't everybody?), for use in the cars audio CD player, with no ill effects - this with the car parked at WDW for 7-10 days in summer. However, these are kept in the glove compartment (or similar) out of direct sunlight. I would suggest the same for the DVD's and player. Maybe put them in the trunk, glove box, or at least under the seat, and they should be alright.

I have seen VHS tapes warp when left on the dashboard, obviously, but audio tapes left in the cars tape player day after day have never been a problem.

We leave CD's/DVD's in our van all the time and we are in Arizona.
Temps inside vehicles in the summer here can be BRUTAL!
We've never had a problem -we do store them out of direct sunlight. We have a built in TV, VCR, DVD player - never had any problems with any of them due to heat either.
