Will Disney VHS be worth something?

As I clean the house, and notice that I have some movies both in VHS and DVD, I wonder... Is it worth keeping them?

Will they be worth something?

Or should I give them away?

Over the past several years, I've put all our Disney VHS tapes in our twice-yearly yard sales. Lately I've been marking them 50 cents a piece, & sometimes they don't even sell at that price. For our next yard sale, I don't even think we'll bother putting any VHS tapes we may have left.

I would never bother saving them. I detest clutter & always get rid of anything we're not using.

I don't know if they are worth anything. We had most of them along with many other kids VHS tapes. Well, that is until the movers stole every one of them a few years ago. I hope the tapes managed to unravel and choke all 5 of those thiefs.

We still have our Disney VHS tapes, mostly because we don't know what to do with them. We tried donating them but couldn't find a taker. Most places like hospitals and day cares don't have VHS players anymore. DD's tapes are neatly stored in a box. If they are ever worth anything, they will probably still be here in our storage shed since DH is a packrat who never gets rid of anything! Fortunately he is a neat packrat so everything is neatly boxed up and labeled.

I still have a working VHS machine, and many of the Disney VHS movie that I have are not available on DVD. I'm keeping mine.

We still have two working VHS machines - the movies that are not yet on DVD are still on DD's shelf. When we upgrade, the movie gets moved to storage.

My gf send out a mass email, saying she was giving up her VHS tapes, and people could come to her house to get them. Everyone emailed back that they just want to get rid of their own! :rotfl2:

Gives me an answer.

All the movies I have on VHS and DVD... well I'm giving away my vhs.

thanks!

I donated them to our library. I figure if they don't loan them out anymore they can sell them in their annual book sale.
In all honesty, I didn't even ask. I was afraid they'd say "no" (like all the doctors, hospitals I called did) so I put them in the drop box!

They still sell in lots on eBay if you want to go thru the trouble. My son had a bunch and gave them to my neighbor who still only watches VHS. He thought they lived in the Flintstones time!:lmao:

Dunno I'd want to go through the troubles of EBAY.

I'll donate them to a charity I know who sells them for funds. As long as books I won't read again.

thanks for a great idea, and a great laugh.

I have a bunch of them. I don't know if they're going to be worth anything but I don't want to keep them any longer to find out. I'm going to donate them to the library or goodwill.

We gave all of ours to one of DH's co-workers. She bought a VCR for a young daughter and needed kid-friendly tapes so it was perfect.

Remember the marketing strategy Disney had?
For a limited time, "Dumbo" will only be available,
until it returns to our "vault".
Now they are doing the same with DVD
and I'm sure they will bring them back out of the vault
with the next newest technology.

We have 3 working VHS machines, we are keeping them.

Just remember that VHS tapes (like DVD's) have a "shelf life" and start to deteriorate after a number of years. The exact time depends on the quality of tape and so forth.

We have been replacing the VHS tapes of our favorites we have with dvd's as they come out.

(to answer your question, we have been giving them to charity. At least someone will get some more viewing enjoyment out of them before they are unreadable)

I kept the small bunch of vhs tapes that I haven't replaced with dvds. The rest went into the dumpster when we had one here at the house four years ago. At some point, someone went into the dumpster and took each and every vhs tape.

I can't imagine they have any value. I did see someone recently trying to sell a lot of unopened Disney vhs tapes for a significant amount of money. I thought it was funny. Maybe someone would pay that, but I can't imagine why.

VHS is really hard to sell where I am. I donate all my unwanted VHS to the Value Village (thrift store). Equally, I will go in and browse what they have. They always have a whole shelving unit full of them, whereas the DVDs live on maybe one shelf or two, because no one wants VHS. They're only a buck each though, so I will buy some from time to time to watch. It's cheaper than renting or buying brand new, and when I'm done I can just donate it again!

They're just now ending the last cycle for Blu Ray/Digital, it will be complete in 2016 I think it is. Can't imagine what will come next, some are saying 4K.

The only VHS I've kept were the rare few that never made it to DVD. Those *might* be worth something, the rest not so much. I donated the rest to the library. It was about five years ago and they seemed happy to have them at the time. I've since passed the DVDs on and have replaced with Bluray and digital. Only kept Aladdin and a Lilo and Stitch sequel that will probably never make it to Bluray. Aladdin will be replaced in October and then I'm done replacing, I don't care what comes along. I swear...
