Will Disney come down in price at the table?

Whilst I appreciate your comments it sounds like you are telling me not to buy???? I have already said I am not buying resale as want to pay monthly and there are benefits to both buying direct and resale. For us we are happier buying direct. I have rented for the last 4 years and the money I have spent renting and paying OOP for nights at other disney resorts would have paid a large chunk off my DVC finance. As I said we will be paying it off in 2 years and as we plan to go twice next year and can easily afford the monthly payments we are buying direct. A few of my UK Dis colleagues have bought through disney and have thought about the future having their children benefit. Yes it is expensive to be a "new adult" but I am sure like the majority of us on these boards young or old will keep going back to WDW for as long as we can.

To add just a little bit towards waiting and buying resale since you are going to have the funds to pay off the contract in a couple of years:

a) You could rent and stay at VWL to see if that really is your dream resort that you want to own at.

b) The actual cost of renting over buying now is in the range of $4-5 dollars/pt over owning and paying the MF's and even less once you factor in financing.

c) If your stay is 200 points that is $800 to $1000 more than if you owned the in the first 2 years.

d) If you do that for 2 years before you buy that's paying $2,000 right now but you would save a minimum of $10-12 thousand on the contract purchase if you then bought resale for a net savings of $8-10 thousand dollars.

e) Savings like that mean you could pay for 8+ years of MF's instead of paying that to DVC for the points.

Personally I'd like the thought of funds going towards MF's for several years rather than to DVC's sales bottom line.

Just a little rough math for the type of savings that you could realize by waiting just a bit, and I've stayed conservative on the numbers - your savings would probably be even greater. And it would give you a couple of trips to check out resorts to get a bit more certain about where you'd like to buy.

VWL vs AKV

One thing to consider:
VWL expires in 2042
AKV expires in 2057

I do appreciate what you are all saying. I didnt mean to sound stroppy brian:lovestruc just so looking forward to something iv wanted to buy into for years and couldnt afford to. I am goin to look into resale a bit more. It would mean waiting a while to save the money but like you say if i save 200 a month with the already £2500 this time next year i could buy a small contract at aklv or vwl. I know you all keep asking about vwl and the whole issue of me wanting to buy there and why but ever since my first visit in 1994 i have loved it. I am going to take db there and to the boardwalk to show him the resorts as he has only been to ssr and aklv.We are staying at Okw this time and aklv again but in one beds not studios. Where is the best place to look at resale and what other costs are involved. Thankyou. Alyson

Debbie i know. Thats another factor. Bwv and BC are the same as well arnt they? Will they ever extend these contracts? I presume they will. DB will prob now say he likes somewhere completly the opposite so i will hv to think logically.longer contract more points for the $ like OKW or shorter contract at a resort iv always liked but never stayed at:happytv:
Off to see what i could buy for approx £5500. Only hv £2400 at the mo;)

Here is a slide show of a VWL one bedroom that you might enjoy. Did you know that the VWL is a separate building next to WL?

I totally understand that. I think if you ask around, a big part of the DVC purchase decision, for most folks, is the intangible feeling you get knowing you "own a piece of the mouse". But, if you can still own it, just a little bit later but for thousands of dollars less, that could be an even better feeling!
