Will Disney cancel Alaska this summer??

The Canadian government just came out with cruising requirements that are confusing to say the least. They said only vaccinated people are allowed off the ship (meaning no-one under 5 can get off?) and that there is a testing element for each time you get off. Carnival already said they'll push for another exemption to the passenger vessel's services act and bypass Canada all together again this summer if Canada can't get it together. Where does this leave Disney?

CLIA just released their updated schedule (last updated end of January, now up to date as of Feb 25) and the Wonder is on there out of Vancouver. They will be sailing from Vancouver this summer. The CDN govt just needs to be more transparent about how testing is going to work, etc. It's not as if they can just move the ship to sail from Seattle, all the berths are taken for 2022.

Disney is three months out from their first cruise out of Vancouver. In an era where protocols have literally changed in some ports as ships prepared to dock, three months is a whole lot of time to sort things out.
Just remember, the U.S. has been a whole lot more liberal in easing restrictions than many other nations in the world.

BC is also being a lot more...how shall I say.... conservative...when it comes to masks and vax passports compared to other parts of Canada. While other provinces have now ditched or are in the process of ditching mask mandates and vaccine passports, BC has not. It will be "reevaluated" in March and if still in place, "reevaluated" in April. Do I think this will be dropped by the time Alaska cruises start on DCL? Yes. Do I think it will be dropped by the time the Wonder arrives in mid April from San Diego for the Hawaii cruises? Unknown.

Actually, just two months out. Vancouver to Hawaii sails on April 26th. We are planning to be onboard.

But like I said, ships literally have been turned away from ports as they were about to dock. So even two months is still a long ways away for protocols to be sorted out in today's pandemic cruising world.

I highly doubt DCL will cancel the season. I expect they will work with whatever the requirements are -- which may mean vaccinated-only cruises as they did for the EBPC last fall. I have seen a couple of articles referencing a vaccine requirement for cruises in/out of Canada, but I can't find it specifically on a Canadian government website -- do you have a link?

I doubt they will cancel and will have everything sorted out by the time Alaska season rolls around.

But if they were to cancel, I guess they would keep the Wonder in California and have it sail to Mexico? I doubt Disney would bring her back to the Atlantic, since that is probably a lot of logistical work

This should provide some more information (though some of it is clear as mud, as usual lol)

And these are the new rules effective tomorrow (February 28th) regarding who can enter Canada and who must be vaccinated in order to avoid quarantine:

I dont find this release confusing?

As of February 28, 2022 at 12:01 a.m. EST:

  • We will be easing the on-arrival testing for fully-vaccinated travellers. This means that travellers arriving to Canada from any country, who qualify as fully vaccinated, will be randomly selected for arrival testing. Travellers selected will also no longer be required to quarantine while awaiting their test result.
    • Children under 12 years old, travelling with fully vaccinated adults, will continue to be exempt from quarantine, without any prescribed conditions limiting their activities. This means, for example, they no longer need to wait 14 days before attending school, camp or daycare.
  • Travellers will now have the option of using a COVID-19 rapid antigen test result (taken the day prior to their scheduled flight or arrival at the land border or marine port of entry) or a molecular test result (taken no more than 72 hours before their scheduled flight or arrival at the land border or marine port of entry) to meet pre-entry requirements. Taking a rapid antigen test at home is not sufficient to meet the pre-entry requirement – it must be authorized by the country in which it was purchased and must be administered by a laboratory, healthcare entity or telehealth service.

Canada hasn't come out with any new cruising rules. The last set of rules - including full vaccination of guests and crews - are all that we have so far. There is no new testing requirement laid out for cruisers either. OP seems to be confusing Canada's general COVID entry requirement updates with those for cruises.

Actually they have, Transport Canada came out with new guidance last week. There's a great article on cruise critic about it.

This is for travel into Canada - not cruise specific requirements that came out of Transport Canada.

There's an article -- but I can't find any source documentation backing up what that article says. It may be true, but where is that info on a Canadian government website? A link anotherposter shared above references reporting g requirements about vaccinated passengers, but I didn't find the vaccination requirement specifically clarified. I didn't dig further into the links from the links, though. Clear as mud is right.

Yes, I understand what the source of confusion is, but that article isn't citing any new TC requirements. Everything it talks about - required vaccinations, tests for entry, etc. - is already known and came out a few weeks ago.

The transportation minister said at a press conference last Tuesday, that there would be a release about the requirements for cruise passengers coming in the next couple of weeks. So no details yet about people debarking from a ship and testing. Canadian ports are open to cruise ships again, but the details regarding testing have not been released.

I though the part of the goverments statement " marine port of entry" referred to cruise ships? No? Isn't that entry into Canada by ship? I guess I'm confused as well but I dont think the Port of Vancouver is going to give up cruise lines when every other entry into Canada is open to vaccinated international travellers and always has been with a couple of very brief exceptions.

I also don't see that Canada's requirements for excursions would apply to DCL Alaska, since all the excursions are in Alaska. I'd think DCL will make sure any excursions that cross into the Yukon from Skagway will not be offered.

There might also be restriction on under-5s in general.

I'm on the June 13th sailing this summer and they are indeed booking excursions that cross into the Yukon from Skagway. White Pass Railroad itself is also booking. I had planned to do a Chilkoot Charters tour, but they placed us on a wait list pending border crossing requirements. I was able to book a similar excursion directly through Disney however.
