Will Disney be using this discount model more frequently in the future?

Anyone think that going forward Disney might be more likely to go with the lower discount model and an OBC included with your cruise promo verses the restricted fare rates? With my current cruise that I have booked it gives me a total discount of 26% even though the percentage off is only 20%. It lands more in favor for Disney because that extra 6% will be going directly back to them.

They could use different amounts, like 20% off with a $350 OBC or less like a 20% off and a $200 OBC, as to how many staterooms they need to fill. Regardless, part of the discount will go directly back to thier pockets.

I don’t think it works exactly as you say in DCL‘s favor. Someone really cost sensitive would use the onboard credit t cover gratuities. For 3 nights and two people that’s already 96$. So a lot of groups will pay more (longer cruise, more people in stateroom). Since that is money that would have been spent anyway, not all of the onboard credit goes really back to DCL.

I see what your saying and you made a good point. It will be interesting to see whether or not they might continue with such in the Fall.

I would be willing to bet they do more of the 20% off and onboard credit in the fall. I can’t figure out why DCL prices the Wish so much higher to start for a similar 4 night itinerary on the Fantasy . It seems like they are constantly having to throw promotions at the Wish just to get people to sail on it.
It also seems like the Dream has really struggled in Fort Lauderdale. That was even before the Destiny came about. I was looking at the placeholder discount promo recently. They had 25% off listed for Dream September 27th visiting both islands with 2 sea days. Total for OV is $2120 for two adults
That’s insane to me.

I would not be surprised to see more of the discounts and OBC in the fall for these two ships. I don’t think they will do it for the others. They did them last fall and we for sure took advantage of it.

Same. Every time I look, you can book a 5 night on the Fantasy and get both DCL islands for about the same price as a 4 night on the Wish. That isn’t even a close decision for us - we would always chose the Fantasy.

They are adding in a newer ship price point with the Wish even though the Fantasy is selling better. Has anyone ever seen any other cruise line out there screw over thier new and coming ships so bad that thier older models are more desired to sail on?

Economics keep heading south.. the pricing that was set a 1-1/2 to 2 years ago isn't going to work out for them. Discounts on most travel with see discounting.

We too booked a 4 night on Fantasy, as it was the cheaper option and did both private islands - something that once was a premium. But we have gone back and booked the summer special on the Wish as it saves $400 and granddaughter is a huge Bluey fan.

It also depends on what you consider a good deal on DCL. For me an oceanview room where I can select it, I am happy to pay up to $285 per person (2ppl no more than $575) per night. For an OGT room I really want it under $250 per person per night. I paid $1850 for a 4 night OGT on the Dream in April... ship wasn't filling at all... but they raised the restricted GT rates and dropped the discount with onboard credit (which is not nearly as deep of a discount) and it is filling fast. Lots and lots of first time cruisers too (like more than 50% of the FB group is first timers) and I get it. It is a lot of money to spend on a DCL cruise and feel like you are gambling with your stateroom assignment. New cruisers want to pick their rooms. I don't blame them.
