The practicality of wearing a mask on board the ship is mitigated by the fact you'll still be touching surfaces that other people touch (elevator buttons, railings, deck furniture etc) so are you going to wear surgical gloves all day too? Until they can absolutely guarantee that everyone on board the ship is infection free (either testing every one that gets on board with a rapid test) or they develop a vaccine in the very near future (Oxford University is in the testing stages of one that they said could in mass production by September) The likelihood of cruising resuming in the near future (possibly July/August) is probably pretty low, the liability of the cruise lines is a factor that will keep them shut down until they have a handle on the infection or a treatment to fight it off or prevent it.

We will not vacation anywhere, not on a cruise, not at Disney World, not anywhere, where we have to wear masks. Being forced to wear one is the absolute antithesis of a vacation. The flight to get there is a separate deal and not something that phases me. Transportation is generally always something of a hassle when it comes travel, anyway. But at the destination itself, no. If they want my vacation dollars, they cannot make me wear a mask.

IF they would require it, one would think it's only for inside, not outside. In counties here in Florida where they mandate that people wear one, it's only inside stores and public buildings/transport. They are saying not to wear it outside (or in cars).

On a cruise I spend a lot of time outside... so it wouldn't necessarily be a deal-breaker for me.

I think in the very short term we will all be wearing masks, hopefully not for long. I would think out in the open air on DCL the need to wear a mask would be reduced, it would mostly be for inside. Trust me, I have to wear a mask all the time at work. I’m not a fan but it’s currently ordered on my job. I see Disney themed N95 masks as a hot item in the DCL gift shops this year...... get em while their hot!!

Masks will never work on a cruise ship. You can't wear a mask to eat, drink, take pics. If anything, they will have to reduce the amount of people on a cruise ship.

Is it 100F with 80% humidity where you work?

I have five Disney themed masks already just to wear when I go to the store....I would bring them to use when/if they are needed in the beginning of cruising again.

But I hope it is not required...that would be a pain.

I can't see them requiring masks from a practical standpoint. I do think they will encourage the use of masks, an may require masks at certain times, but I don't think we will see a blanket 'you have to wear masks' requirement for cruising.

So if WDW is talking about phase opening, marking 6 ft markers for queue lines, all workers wearing mask with the park opening at 50% capacity in phase I and phase II at 75% with either ages 60 or 65 (don’t remember exactly the age) not allowed in due to age/increased risk, how can they possibly really consider cruising? Potential disaster waiting to happen.

The age is 65 but that is only for workers of WDW and not actual guests entering the park. Those CMs aged 65 years of age or older are encouraged to stay home. As for DCL, we do not know the specifics yet, but before everything was shut down certain cruise lines required a medical form which validated a cruisers "medical fitness" from their primary care doctor if they were aged 70 and above. My guess is these guidelines will carry through once ships start sailing again. I'm not sure if it will pass along to the parks though.

We won’t cruise if you have to wear a mask. Just not interested at all. As much as we wish we could cruise right now, wearing a mask would spoil the whole cruise experience for us.
Alcoholic drinks are big part of cruise lines profits. I’m going to say they won’t require masks.

Disney theme parks cannot exist at current tickets prices if capacities are reduced 50% to make social distancing practical.

Cruise ships need to be at 99% occupancy to make a profit due to fixed cost of fuel and labor. That's why they would give away cabins just to fill the boat, just so they can make a profit on alcohol and excursions.

Why sail a boat at 50% occupancy if you know it will be a loss?

Because you want to stay in business, this is not about the short term, but the long term. Yes, they will have a loss for several months, maybe a year, maybe even two years. But it's probably better to keep your name top of mind and your staff trained and experienced, then to sit and wait for 6-12 months till the economy is up and running again (at least enough for the ships to fill).
