Will Contemporary Resort really be that popular?

If the rumoured Contemporary Resort becomes fact - will it be as popular as many people think? If DVC are still selling SSR, they are bound to offer SSR at a massive discount, if they think people will stop buying it due to the building of the Contemporary Resort. How much per point is the Contemp going to cost, considering they have not even started building yet? It could be as much as $120 per point. If they were offering it at that rate, and still had an SSR incentive of $83.50, which one would you add on at? Imagine a gap of $36.50. That would be an extra $3650 per 100 points. Would it really be worth that much.

Contemporary is popular with many due to the views from the tower and it's proximity to MK. But, on the resorts board and in the guide books, it is nowhere near as popular as the other monorail resorts - with some of the guidebooks describing it as unthemed and concrete like. I would love to stay there sometime, but never have, because I would find it difficult to choose it over the Poly or GF. Also, DVC is a longterm committment. Those with young kids may be attracted, due to the proximity of the MK. But could you really imagine having the Contemp as your vacation home for many years to come? I certainly couldn't. I own at VWL, but that is for the relaxing theming, as much as the location.

I just wonder if people will pay the price for the Contemp, if it reaches as much as $120. Maybe some will. It is hard for me to imagine, as i prefer to be quite near the parks, but in a relaxing location. Whereas I know some people like to be at BCV, and BWV, in the middle of all the action. I would love to hear the thoughts of others on this subject.

I'd pay it ($120.00) for the convienence of the Monorail.

I wouldn't pay it for anyother resort, or site, except perhaps for the Grand Californian.

I probably wouldn't do an add-on, but would have if it had been offered 5-6 years ago. The "problem" with the CR today, IMHO, is that it just isn't nifty enough anymore. Building a new DVC building, complete with new theming and full kitchens, would resolve that.

I would be tempted to do an add on, but it would depend on the point chart as well and the price per point. We only stayed at CR once with our children and we didn't realize just how close we were to MK. We were probably in the garden wing closest to MK and yet we walked to the monorail, if only we knew! I would love to do that vacation over again.

there is nothing like just walking into the MK!!! We stayed 5 or 6 times in a garden wing facing the lake, it was awsome. We could sit on our little porch and watch the water pagent every night, and the kids loved feeding the ducks from our room!

I would have zero interest in the CR/DVC. MK is not a draw for us particularily, and the CR theme does nothing for me.

I have zero interest in a DVC at the Contemporary. I only joined DVC this year, but even when I was visiting WDW and staying at non-DVC resorts, I haven't stayed at a monorail resort since 1989. I'm accustomed to not having a monorail right at my hotel, so having it is not such a big selling point to me.

Don't know how long ago you stayed at the CR but years ago you couldn't walk to the MK from CR. That entrance and the bus stops didn't exist. You had to go by monorail or boat.

If the price was right, we would most certainly buy DVC at CR. We love the MK as do most people judging by the crowds there. We also love that whole area. The many dining options on the monorail circuit, the boat rentals, and golf close by make it a great area in our book. We would prefer a Polynesian DVC but it is hard to imagine that happening.

No interest in buying an add on there on my part.

That said, I certainly could end up to be one of the many members trying for a non-home reservation there at the 7 month mark (at least once).

I really liked the pictures of the remodeled rooms I saw and hope that if there is a CR DVC resort, the decor ends up to be similar.

Best wishes -

I would like to do a very small add-on at the imaginary CRV (25-50pts) even at those prices. But when push came to shove would I actually put my money down?? It might not happen. We really have enough points and not enough money! :rotfl:

Sure there is --- Just stay at any of the three resorts at Disneyland :)

I'd add on a 100 points at a Contemporary DVC resort

I've kinda lost interest in CRV, and have been daydreaming about AKL/DVC. Then again, soon/if CRV is announced, would be something to consider if we had small children by then. I agree with the others, the theming at CRV is not appealing to me. I did see a pic of the remodeled rooms, and that did wow me!

I think CRV would be huge and I think people will pay a lot.

I don't think it will be $120 per point though. I think the per point will be a reasonable increase. The dues however.... I think will be quite high.

I never thought about the points per night. Does anyone have any thoughts on that. Could it be possible that they would make points useage for some nights higher than BCV VWV and VWL, or do you think it would be similar?

If it happens, I don't think it would be $120 either. I also wouldn't expect the dues to be much different than the other WDW DVC resorts.

I'd bet that the points would be roughly the same as BCV.

Yeah, what she said! :goodvibes

HOWEVER I have friends who I travel with sometimes and they insist on being right by MK (two small kids). I suggested that they stay YC/BC/BW but they wouldn't consider it. (and the cost of their rooms at GF would have bought 50% of a current SSR 150 point contract  )

I could well see them being the prospective CR owner who would purchase at $120.

I much prefer to walk to a park, but that's why I like the BW area - I can walk to both Epcot and MGM from there.

I doubt we'd do a CRV add-on, but I could see us possibly staying there for a night or two during a trip. We'd be able to walk to the MK for a couple of days, then move to BWV for our normal access to Epcot and MGM. This would work if nightly points aren't sky high.

you can easily walk to the MK from the Cont.

there are some of us who love the MK....

I like Epcot and sometimes stay at BWV or BCV for easy access to it.

but there is something about walking from you hotel to the MK>>>>> that is down right magical - and then coming back on the monrail.... ::MickeyMo
