Will circumcision replace smoking?

OK, first get that visual out of your mind.

What I mean, will circumcision replace smoking as the next great evil that needs to be eradicated? I ask because I've been in lots of debates about circumcision, and it seems that the some on the anti-circ side are inordinately concerned with the decisions that other people make for their kids. Seems to me that it's only a matter of time before the "it isn't necessary, no one should be doing it!" fight begins.

No, I don't think it will. The thing about smoking is that non-smokers can realistically argue that the smoking significantly and negatively affects them.

I cannot conceive of any scenario in which my little boy being circumcised or uncircumcised would have any impact on someone else's health or well being.

Seriously, I think that some people will make a big issue of it but as long as doctors agree to do it those who don't like it will be easy to ignore. Now if doctors decide to no longer do it then it could be like smoking. Sort of.

I blame that more on insurance companies constantly slashing benefits to save money rather than them caring one whit if it's actually done or not though. My insurance also doesn't pay for dermatology and many preventative treatments. I think that if parents want it done, they'll find a way.

I dunno what you are talking about.. but you wanna know something that I know... there people.. well men.. in some places (this is a form of genital mutilation) and they... slice down the underside of their..... and allow it to heal with the slit... to make it look like a kangaroo's........

I do not think they are comparable debates.

To me, the heart of the smoking debate has to do NOT with how you are killing yourself, but how you are killing the person next to you...


Now, unless sitting next to a to a circumsized man is intrinsicly harmful to me, I see no comparison.

To answer the OP, no it wont. I don't think circumcision kills nearly as many people as smoking does every year.
