My son found a T-shirt with Goofy wearing our CFL team clothing and wants to take it on our trip. I am wondering if he wears if to meet the actual Goofy do you think he would sign the shirt.

You might want to get a fabric marker in case the sharpie "bleeds"

I agree. That's why sports autograph hounds don't have baseball players sign the ball with Sharpies. But football players, yes. Baseballs are porous, footballs aren't.

You may need something to support the shirt when signed. It can be a challenge to hold something with no backing and sign it with a 10 pound oversized goofy head on. Don't know never tried but just thinking its flimsy to hold and sign with gloves on.

I plan to put my daughters shirt in a cross stitch hoop to hold it tight while they sign

Yes, but not while it is being worn. If he carries it with him, he can likely get it signed.

If you don't want to do a Goofy Greet twice, you could possibly have it laid tight on a clipboard or embroidery hoop for signing, then have your son pop it on over his other shirt for the picture.

P.s. I am a scout leader and the girls often do fabric crafts. Sharpies are permanent on cloth, keeping their brightness especially if you dry 10-15 min on high prior to washing, to set the color. i do find that a true fabric marker is less likely to "bleed", although sharpie doesn't do too badly on 100% cotton.

This is not my experience at all. DGD had a 100% cotton pillow case autographed on our trip last summer. We used Sharpies and they have bled and faded greatly in just a year. I would only use Fabric Markers on anything you plan to actually wear/use. If it's just something that will be framed or something like that, it would be fine. But washing/wearing, no Sharpies.

As for a way to make it easy to sign, I used binder clips and a mini clip board. A hoop alone would have been a bit too hard for many of the fur characters to sign. They need the hard backing.

Thank you all for the tips. I do think I will try to have something hard under the fabric and I will most likely get a fat sharpie pen. I'm hoping the sharpie will last until he outgrows the shirt.

We always take baseball hats and fat sharpie pens. The "kids" wear the hats and just take then off when it comes to characters signing them. It works really great!
