There are 3 adults, 2 kids, not in car seats.

Do you guys think a midsize will work for us? Need to have rental as we are going to see Dh's grandfather while we are in FL (1.5 hrs from Disney).

Mostly using Disney transport except for seeing him 2 days. Trying to save money on rental and fuel cost.

I have only rented cars twice before, so any input would be great.

If you look at the Alamo site, they describe their cars, and how many can be seated comfortably.
It says Toyota Corolla, or similar, and states it can seat 5 passengers.
As long as you are not bringing luggage in the car too, you should be ok.
Have a great time.

Depends on how big all of the adults are. 3 adults in my family, no way. We are all 6' tall +.
Also depends on what they call a midsize. Is a Malibu midsize?

I have a rental reserved for Alamo too. We also have three adults and two kids but I went with the full size. As I recall, there was very little cost difference. I went through Costco for the best rate.

Alamo uses non-standard classifications for their rental cars: they grade up. Everything that they class as a mid-size is actually in the EPA's "compact" or "subcompact" classification in terms of interior volume.

The best way to know if you will be comfortable is to go out to the mfr. website and check the interior cu. footage of the car you normally drive with this many passengers, and then check the same measurement on the list of cars that the rental agency gives as examples of that class. If it's half the size, you'll know that you need to upgrade.

its all about the luggage I think. We got a full size before and then needed a bigger car (not because of people because of luggage) so that is something to think about

A tip for Alamo at MCO. They do not have standard size there, so if you book a standard, which is a few dollars less than a full size, you will still get a full size when you get there.

Go onto Alamo's website and look under Hot Deals, they have a coupon code that you can use for a free class upgrade if booking compact to mid-sized cars. We upgraded free of charge from a midsize to a full sized car ...the coupon code is, AU2729MJW ... if you have the mid-sized booked already, go back in to modify reservation and then enter the free upgrade ...should give you more leg room for your travels!!!

Hope it works out for you!!!

Here is another Alamo discount coupon code for a double upgrade if you rent compact to mid-size from therem ...AU2852SDA!

I picked up a rental at MCO last month. I booked a midsize and was a little nervous about the 4 of us fitting in...mainly the luggage...since it said a Corolla is a midsize. When we went out to pick the car the midsize aisle was all HHR's, at least 12 of them, with 1 Cube, 2 Vibes and only 1 Corolla.

I think you will be fine with a midsize but if you can apply one of the upgrade coupons then that would be an even better situation.

We were just in Florida and rented a mid-size car from Dollar. I was shocked at the size of the car, it was a Mercury Marquis. It was huge, with big trunk. We were 4 adults and I would definately look into it for us a family (2 adults and 3 children).
