Will a cat scratch up a leather couch?

I never said they were, and yes I do. Again, neither of which has anything to do with yanking out my cats claws and cutting off half of their "fingers".

I don't have leather, but my couches are all down to the wood. Both my cats have worn down the fabric and everything in between on every front corner of the couches. I have tried the plastic nail caps but they mock me while nibbling them off. That is why my couches look the way they do, but I love my cats . Truth is they run the house

It's so weird, we've had our cat for almost a year, and she has not touched our leather couches with her claws. She has, however, destroyed our leather ottoman that we leave under the window. She sits on there and looks outside all day, and she often runs on and off of it, and we think that's when she does the damage, when she skids. I was a little upset at first but I got over it.

I don't know why she doesn't scratch up the couches. It's a very thick leather, so maybe she can't even pierce it with her nails? She's on the couches constantly (then again, so are we, ha ha). Maybe we don't stand up long enough to give her a chance to scratch away.

Declawing may be cruel, but so is killing an animal and tanning its hide so you can sit on your hide.

Not really.....people EAT meat and then USE the hide to make leather. That's using the whole animal which is much better than removing the nails.....

Yes, in fact I've seen it....as a 6th grade field trip we went to a slaughterhouse and saw the process from start to finish. It was not pretty and I stopped eating beef for some time because of it.


OP please do NOT declaw your kitty, it's not nice and if your inside kitty gets out (which does happen) your kitty is left with no defenses.....not that I think you will do that as it wasn't mentioned in your op, I just wanted to say that.
Yes, if you get a leather couch you will regret it. Go with a microfiber, very easy to clean and ours looks great. It's a solid color, tan, comfy and we love it.
