Wilderness trail @ night?

Hello, we are going to be at Disney in late April. One afternoon we were planning on checking out the monorail resorts & then taking the boat over to WL to have dinner @ Whispering Canyon (7:30). After, if possible, we'd like to walk the trail down to Fort Wilderness & see the Electric Water Pageant from there - then a boat back to MK to catch a bus to CBR. (Hopefully we can see the fireworks from the boat :).

The question being - do they close the trail when it starts to get dark? Sunset is supposed to be around 8. We probably wouldn't be done w/ dinner until what. . . 8:30, 9? It is a full moon that night, so it'd be cool to "hike" by it, but I don't know if Disney allows folks to wander around in the spooky dark forest. ;)

The nature trail that used to begin behind the marina is closed due to the VWL construction. However, the paved walking path that begins near the bus stop is open. It does not close so you will be able to walk it. It is not lit so I would bring a flashlight or use the flash on your phone because it is very dark.

And as @dansdad has observed, "critters" have been known to meander down the paths.

Greatly depends upon what the critter is to me.

Umm, is this safe? I don't know, just wondering. What about two footed 'critters' in the dark?
You'll DEFINIYELY want some type of "flashlight"!

I walked in without a light-VERY dark with lots of "noises"!:)

I've never heard of an incident on the trail, but I would use common safety practices and not walk alone.

The critters I've seen during day on the un paved nature trail are deer and raccoons. I've always wanted to see an armadillo but no luck so far. I see plenty of raccoons at home, lol! And the occas deer.

My DH and I rode this nature trail on bike during the day a couple of years ago, it's a bit secluded until you reach the Fort Wildness Campground. We saw rabbits, raccoons, and snakes.

If you decide on walking the trail at night, bring a strong flashlight, carry a stick, and wear a lot of bug repellant!!! In addition to critters, there are a lot of mosquitos and other pesky bugs.

Ah, mosquitos. . . I forgot about those (we don't really have them where I live). That is one "critter" I am afraid of!
Thanks for the heads up on the bug repellant. I assume they sell that at the resort stores?

Trust me, I live in Miami, Florida...mosquitos are super annoying and if you are fair skinned (as I am) you are more prone to bites times 3!

I've seen Off brand bug repellant in the some resort stores. However, Walgreens, Walmart, and Publix sells these sprays for much cheaper. Cutter brand is my favorite mosquito repellent, strongest in my opinion. Burt's Bees also makes bug repellent.

And if you decide to do the trails during the day... don't forget sunscreen!!
