Hello again

Got my confirmation of my reservation at Wilderness Lodge. I've got a courtyard room and thought I'd call on the collective wisdom of the people here as to what room I could try to request.

And secondly, when should I write to request a room?

Regards
Michael

You can fax your request 3 days prior to your check in day.
If you want a courtyard view overlooking the pool, be sure to ask for a room overlooking the pool as there are courtyard views that overlook the WL Villas. The views that over look the pool are in the North Wing. I think the rooms on the 6th floor have the closed in fencing around the balconey so stay in the 4th or 5th floor for a nice view. In the north wing there is an elevator that goes right near the food court, if you have a room close to that elevator it makes it easy to get to the food court and also to the exit that leads to the boat dock, and it is close to the lobby as well.
Read the Wilderness Lodge FAQ threads they have a wealth of information

This is a link to a site that gives a very good explanation of how to fax your room request. I think it recommends 4 days prior to arraival. You should be sure to request smoking preference and the type of bedding you want since they have bunk bed rooms that you may or may not want. We were in room 5025 and it was great. It was on the north side just past the waterfall with a great view of the pool and lake and geyser. We could see the front half of the Electric water parade at night. This room had bunk beds which is what we wanted and it also had a "open" balcony. If we had been down 1 or 2 more rooms in 5021 we would have had a better view of the falls but we wouldn't have been able to see the EWP very much. Each room has its tradeoffs. I think the 4th or 5th floors would give the best views and still have open balconies.

Also, ask to upgrade to Concierge level when you check in. It will probabally be a a $35-40 increase but it is very much worth it. We upgraded to concierge privileges but kept our 5th floor room and it worked out great. I would have really been dissapointed with a closed balcony like the 7th Concierge level floor has. It doesn't do much good to have a great view if you have to stand up the whole time to enjoy it. Have fun.
