I'm booking my trip for December and I'm trying to pick between WL and Contemporary. I'd prefer the WL, however I'm not quite sure of the transportation is as convenient as the Contemporary.

Since we will have three kids under four, I'd prefer the easiest access to MK. My question, has anyone stayed at the WL with younger kids and relied on the Disney transportation, other than the buses. How is the water transportation ? Does it only go to MK or does it to the transportation center ?

Thanks in advance.

I have never stayed at WL with young children, but we have stayed there three times. Last time was two years ago. At that time the water transportation would take you either to the Cont. or to the MK. Two differerent boats. We enjoyed the boat ride immensely. Very relaxing and you have a great view of WL, Cont, and GF from the water. It doesn't take too long to get to either place. When we wanted to go to EPCOT we would ride to the Cont. and get on the monorail to go. Neither one will take you to the transportation center. Have a great vacation! :)

We stayed at WL last October. I agree with Boots, the boat is a very relaxing ride to the MK, and relatively fast. We found the bus service to be pretty good, too. We never waited longer than 5-10 minutes for a bus (with the exception of evening transportation to DTD).

We stayed at the WL in 1996 and had a great time. I don't ever remember waiting that long for a bus or boat. However, DH's friend just stayed there in May and had a horrid time with the buses. They hardly ever showed up! He complained and the next day there were Disney CM's out there with stopwatches actually timing how long it took for the buses to get there! I don't know if there were cutbacks made in the transportation after Sept. 11th or what, but we had a bad time with Disney transportation during our stay this spring at the GF also. I would highly recommend using your rental car to get to and from your resort. WDW transportation was especially bad going to DTD and the waterparks. Notwithstanding WDW transportation (which as I said I wouldn't use anymore if I had a rental car), the WL is my absolute favorite hotel at WDW and I would love to stay there again!

Boats at WL were great, but the busses were a different story in July. The resort shares bus transportation with the campground and you should plan on any bus trip taking one full hour if you have PS's for meals, etc. I really like the WL, but if I were towing small children and deciding between WL and CR, I'm sure I'd pick CR for the more rapid transportation. When at WL we found a quick boat trip to CR could get us to places faster than waiting for the transportation from WL. We'd take the monorail to Epcot or walk to the ront and get on the busses. From the water parks and AK we also took transportation back to CR and the boat from CR to WL. We, unfortunately did not figure out how to do all of this until the second week we were there!

Thanks for all the great input. It sounds like the best bet is to utilize the boats whenever possible, including using the CR for monarail access.
