When I began my search for where to stay in Disneyworld, I had a few things in mind. Close to MK, a nice pool, good transportation, etc. Well all of these added up to the WL. Being from the Pacific Northwest the last place I wanted to stay was in a PNW themed resort! We’re vacationing in Florida for crying out loud! Why do I want to stay in a lodge? Well, long story short, we made the right choice. Such a wonderful place, friendly CMs, easy access to MK, good transportation, you name it. We arrived late at night, around midnight and we found the lodge pretty much empty. This gave us time to see the pool area undisturbed. It was a gorgeous night and the kids wanted to go swimming. Well, we had to get up in only a few hours and visit our first park, so I convinced them to wait until later that afternoon.

We had requested bunk beds for our kids and a non-smoking room. We were able to get our requests granted. Room 6048 was our home for the next 7 nights. The view wasn’t the greatest – we had the service entry side, lots of deliveries early in the morning, but through the trees we could see Cinderella’s castle and Space Mountain. After seeing those we didn’t even notice the big garbage dumpsters below us.

We had a nice Mickey Mouse towel display waiting for us in our room and was the first of many towel displays for the week. We did make sure to tip our artists!

The room was large enough for us and the kids totally loved the bunk beds.

Would I stay here again? Let me think…Of course! I don’t know if I want to stay anywhere else! Staying at the value resorts would make sense $$ wise, same for the moderates, but hmmmm. I’ll have to cross that bridge when I come to it. Looks like that bridge will be in 2007!

One last thing, I want to thank each and every DISer for providing me with so much information, all of it useful. Their responses were my inspiration for my own report. You all may not realize it, but you provide piece of mind to parents, like me, who have never been to WDW and don’t know what to expect. My trip was all based on input that I was able to find here. I can’t even imagine going to WDW without visiting this site. I seriously would have been overwhelmed. I wouldn’t have known about the Flag Family at the WL (we weren’t selected, but that’s ok), fastest routes to places, Dole Whips, best places to eat, secret places to sneak away from crowds, etc. You all made me look like a hero to my wife and kids for giving them the vacation of a lifetime. I hope you can all have that feeling one day. I, and my family, will never, ever forget this trip.

I am so glad you had a MAGICAL TRIP that is what we Dis'er all love to share.

WL is our favorite resort, we're headed back there in 21 days! I'm glad that you and your family had such a magical stay there.

I'm glad that you loved the WL. We are staying there for the first time in February and I can't wait.

This is great - so glad to hear you and your family had an awesome trip!

Can I ask - was your room a standard view, or a woods/lodge view? I'll be staying at the WL for the first time in less than 2 weeks, and I'm looking for a good standard room location to request. I'm with you - if I could see the castle and SM through the trees, who cares about the dumpsters below!

Hello Tinkaroo,
Our room was a standard room. I had read about surprise upgrades during check-in and was hoping for one, but we weren't offered one. I don't know if we would have done any better, maybe a view of the courtyard or the pool. Didn't matter though, we were happy anyway.

Glad you had a magical stay!

We also hire out. If you pay our way, we'll personally help you navigate.

I have not left for my 1st trip yet (27 days) but I have to say that I feel exactly the same about these boards. Everyone is soo nice and helpful. All the advice has been priceless to me and I know that because I was blessed to find these wonderful people my family is going to have the trip of our lives.. My new motto is "THE D.I.S IS THE ONLY WAY TO GO!"

Thanks everyone!!

We leave tomorrow afternoon, bound for the WL. We stayed there our first time in '99 because it was the least expensive place I could get a queen size bed and bunks! Little did I know, we would fall in love with the place.

It is a lovely feeling when your family actually appreciates just how special all your research and planning made their trip. I'm so glad you all enjoyed yourselves!

Thanks for posting! 2007 is just around the corner...

Thanks for the report! Makes me even more excited about our upcoming trip.

Just a few questions...
Did you take the boat and/or bus to MK? Which did you prefer?
Did you eat at the restaurants at WL? (WCC, Artist Point in particular)
Did you use ME to get to the resort? How was it?

Thanks again :flower:

We took both the boat and the bus. You've got to do the boat at least once each way. Very panoramic! The bus is quicker though. The boat took maybe 20 minutes with a stop at the CR first on the way to MK.

We didn't eat at either the WCC or Artist Point. Next time for sure.

ME was a unique situation for us. We arrived in FL at 11:30PM. We were expecting to see someone in the airport, like the gloved folks we heard about. There were none around. We went down to the bottom floor in Terminal A (we arrived at Terminal B). We were advised that because of the late hour it would be better for us to pick up our own luggage then wait for it at the resort. That meant going back up to the top floor across the terminal and down to the baggage carousel, pick up the suitcases, back up to the main terminal, over to Terminal A and back down to the ME welcome desk. After that things went smooth. It was nice relaxing on a nice bus both ways. We were able to check in at WL for our return flight and had them hold our bags while we made a last run to the park. We met the ME later that day and had another nice ride to the airport. Bags arrived back home with no problems.

ME worked great for us when we arrived on 11/5. Get this....

we landed at 10:07 am
we got on line for ME check in at 10:29.
line was very long, but we got through it in 10 minutes.
bus was waiting for us and left within 5 minutes.
dropped off one couple at POR.
was checking in at WL at 11:15.

This may be a record :earsboy:

Everything worked perfectly for us...but I don't see it taking more than a half hour longer than what it took us if you don't hit everything right. I think Disney has really worked the kinks out of the system.

I should stop reading these posts.

Can't wait - 10 more days until Florida and WL :)

Thanks for the great review! We will at WL 1 week from tomorrow and I can't wait. I am encouraged to read that you got your bunk bed request, because that's what we asked for as well. Can I ask how old your kids are?

Hi Kristi! We will be there the same time as you! We are arriving on Friday. We have two boys...but are not requesting bunk beds...they just turned 5 and 7 this month....no way would they stay in those bunk beds!

I hope you get your request!! I live in FL and the weather for the most part (except for today) has been BEAUTIFUL!!!!! Today was a blah day.

Have fun on your trip!!!

Hi klinlin,

My kids are 6: boy and 8: girl

I hope you have the best time, I know you will. I was so hoping to try the Beverly at Ice Station Cool in Epcot, but it was closed while we were there. Have one for us!!

Love the review! Thank you so much!! One day I hope we could swing it!!

You'll get there wildzootv. It took us a long time, but we finally made it. We want to go back again, but we know it's going to take a while to save up again. Make sure you save enough to do it right!! :hourglass

I love the WL! On our last trip we stayed at VWL and loved that too! My nephew loves taking the boat to the MK or CR. It's so much nice than a bus.
I'm thinking about the Poly for our next trip, but I think the WL will win out!
