Wilderness Lodge Holiday Season

I am fantasizing about doing a holiday trip in a year or two and have always wanted to stay at VWL... if we try to book a 1 br at 7 mo, is that crazy? Would I be better off trying to trade a confirmed reservation at one of our home resorts?

Point differences would be a problem with a trade. Every so often the idea of trading reservations comes up, but I do not recall a post where it was actually done. However, I think VGF is a hot choice for a December visit. So, I think you could find someone interested in trading.

If you are not talking about December 2014, why don't you look at the 7 month mark for next year. See what is available.

My favorite resorts in December are VWL, BWV and now VGF, and we do own at all 3, because staying in 2 of them for a December trip, is non negotiable for us.

I would suggest that you rent VWL points (or get them transferred into your account) and book it at 11 months. Then rent your points to someone else.

Trades are rare and harder to find.

You could always use on of the DVC point brokers and pay the difference ($2pp) to accomplish this.

Christmas exactly or just sometime over the holiday season? Do you have exact dates you need to go or a little flexibility? For a 1BR I think you'll have an ok chance at 7 months with flexibility on dates.

We went for Christmas in '09 and booked only three months in advance. The only place open was VWL, so that's where we stayed. I'm sure there's a good amount of luck involved.

We will be there the week of Thanksgiving for four days! Love this resort for the Holidays it is so festive! Stayed here last year also. I think it is my favorite for Thanksgiving & Christmas!!!

I've heard sp much about the decorations a VWL that I'm going to have to make time to go there this November

I don't know if this helps but I was able to book a 1br at VWL in July for a Dec stay for this year. (Home resort is SSR.)

I think it is much easier to get into VWL Since BLT opened. People like the proximity to mk and since BLT has lots of rooms it's easier to get into vwl.

Before BLT opened. I never saw vwl have openings in nov dec in the 7 month window. Last couple years I see openings
Last year I did a last minute Halloween trip
This year nov we got a week, I think in the 6-7 months out.

Lots of great advice, thank you! I'll start creeping the reservations at 7 mo next year to see how it looks like it shakes out--I think we'd do a pre- or post- Christmas trip so we don't miss family time.
