Wilderness Lodge DISrs Memory Box Thread

It took me awhile, I went to far, and had to back up a little.
It was fun doing this kinda secret club thing that not everyone
knows about.

Agreed. Sorry. Please keep your pictures to yourselves. I firmly believe that if you see anything of the box or it's contents that it will take away from the magic and mystery it has. If you think about it, never seeing what it looks like makes you want to find it more.

FC, I added your stick suggestion to the original post. Anything else you feel should be added?

I just read all the messages from people finding the box, and it looks like that is the best choice! I started laughing when I read about the people who "startled" (or were startled by) the deer! I kept looking for other "eyes" when I was poking around! HEHEHE!

Someone did walk down the path after I already had the box open. So I non-chalantly tried to look like I had stopped for a snack! (Waited until he was out of sight before putting it back.)

Another tip? Make sure that you seal everything back up tight to ensure it stays waterproof!

We won't be at the Lodge until Aug. 2004, hoping the box will still be there, this sounds like so much fun! We may take a trip over when we're down for our "quick" weekend in Feb. though just to look for it! Thanks for such a great idea Fred! It's fun to see what other Diser's look like and what they would leave from their home states!

We were there last week, I had printed out the directions and both times we went to the Lodge I had left the directions back in our hotel room in the Contemporary! Darn- I was really looking forward to finding the box.

barbruka and I went in search of the box on Wednesday night- Oct 15. Believe it or not we went looking about 8:30 pm. It was very dark, but we had our trusty flashlights with us. NOTHING could deter us from finding our hidden treasure. So, we ventured into the dark unknown- excited and giddy about finding our secret stash! With only a few steps into the dark cavern of the woods, we found ourselves like disney characters in a halloween cartoon; Silence for a short minute, then the crunching of branches in the woods. Flashlights IMMEDIATELY scoured the surroundings but we found nothing and continued a few feet further into the black hole of the woods. Walking a few more feet- another crunch- this one found us standing still in our path, turning around and QUICKLY walking out of the abyss and into the safety of the filtered light of the bike rental building. OK- call us chicken, wuss, babies...... whatever you want.... I don't care! I could swear I saw a pair of yellow glowing eyes staring out at us and I wasn't gonna wait to see who they belonged too! While we were unsuccessful on Weds. night, we did go back yesterday MORNING (no flashlights needed) and found the box, safe and sound and added our photo from MK and barbs business card from her B&B in the box. Someone walked past us when we found the box as well, but we waited til he was outta site before we replaced it!
This was a very fun thing for us to do and we will do it again in January. Thanks for the fun!

LOL Oh my I wont be out there in the dark for sure.

I will be leaving some stickers and things for the kids when I am there this week.
Please make sure to get your kids some I am taking plenty ( hope the box will hold them ).

We went on the hunt on Sunday 10/12 and found the box!!
Woo-hoo!
We had such a great time. We felt as though we were on a secret mission and tried to remain as sneaky as possible.

We did not see anyone around and found the box with relative ease thanks to the big ol' X mark on the tree. We took pictures for our own memories and left behind an illustrated picture of DH and I that he created. We looked through the box and signed in as well. We think you are going to need a bigger box!!

Thank you so much for the fabulous experience!! We look forward to going back again during our next trip.

Off-post: We will never ever not stay at WL again. I'll be posting our dreaded experience at CSR in it's own post.

Thanks for sharing your experience with us. It made me feel very excited for you. To this day, I never thought that this box would be as magical as it has been. You have all helped it become what it is!!

I must say that we would never think of staying somewhere other than the lodge!! Sorry you had a bad experience at CSR. We never stayed there as I had the impression it was too oriented towards business and conventions.

As you have mentioned, we are already aware that we may need a bigger box. We are hoping to go down in January (PD EVERYONE!! I HOPE THIS TIME COMES THROUGH!) so I may bring something SLIGHTLY larger but we can't have anything TOO big. That's why I promote the "leave something, take something" approach. This way, you get something neat to keep as a souvenir from the box and yet you are leaving something cool behind for someone else!

With all the pics that have been left, I may take some of them out when I go down next and store them away.

Remember, those if you that have found the box can surely agree, we don't have much room to go larger without it being too easy to see the box from a distance.

WOW!! Just two weeks until our first time staying at VWL. We are so excited and having been trying to come up with something small to leave in the "magic WL box". Our 13 DS is even getting excited...not a cool thing to pass on to his friends....LOL
