Maybe once a year you could go to Lodge and retrieve the pictures relocate the BOX post pics on your site and give new clues to find the memory box. (each year we would have new scavenger hunt for the BOX) pirate:

Better yet just before you go FloridaCat could relocate the BOX make a special clue sheet for you and your familey . Then you could try and find it?pirate:

I have to tell you Karebear and I got about half way down that path before the night darkness scared us away! Our little flashlights were just not powerfull enough. It is PITCH DARKNESS there at night, so I don't recommend going in the dark! When we decided to turn around, we were practicly at a run to get to light again! We could just see the headlines -- "Two crazy middle age woman killed while looking for Dis memory box in dark at Wilderness Lodge!"

On Friday the 17th (when we went back), it was a nice sunny, hot morning. We had a little problem finding it, but did not give up. The box had about eight signatures in it from people. It was fun looking at the pictures of people who had gone before us. Geesh, sounds like they died!!!

On Wednesday night when I called home to my family, the first thing they asked was if we had found the box!!! So back in Wisconsin, they were wondering how it went too! Thanks for the memory! Hope the box stays forever there! But you will need a bigger one eventually! What a hoot to do!

:sunny:

I think that what barb meant to say was the SHE was practically at a run to get to the light. I was at a meandering saunter kind of a speed. She is such a fraidy cat! :teeth: ::yes::

Great stories. Great to read. Lots of things creeping around the woods there night AND day. I saw my share. Matter of fact, a deer nearly made me jump out of skin the day I was looking for a place to hide the box. :)

I probably wouldn't go out there at night either. :earseek: :teeth:

DH and I decided on Saturday, 10/18/03 to head over to EPCOT to the Food and wine Festival. It was a great, fun time. It was also very crowded. The CM in the parking lot said they were expecting record crowds. Believe me it was bumper to bumper. But it was good to see that may people at EPCOT again.

Around 3:30pm, we decided to hop on over to the Wilderness Lodge to relax a little and to search for "Father Fred's Memory Box". Directions in hand, I read them aloud to my DH (being a former boyscout he was a huge help) and we began our hunt. We found the box, no problem thank to Marcel. Fred, very good hiding place. ::yes:: We signed the card, and left a napkin (unusued, of course) from the Food and Wine Festival in the box. That was really fun, it felt like we were on a scavenger hunt, me reading the directions and Marcel searching out the "memory box".

Thanks "Father Fred", such a great idea. We can't wait until we go again in December to see what additions are left in the box. :D

Aww dizneykid.... Glad you had a good time and thanks for sharing your experience with us. :wave2:

Well I found it and on the 1st try :teeth: I took my 3 yr old nephew with me to look and it was so easy .
I had him standing behind me while I squated down to write and add my things to the box. I told him to watch for people cause it was a secret for special people only . While I was writting he kept saying " Boo ...look it is a Deer" I kept saying " Oh good I like deer is it like that bunny by the pool ? Does it look nice? ( I really thought he was making it up )
Within a few seconds I heard him say " Boo look it is getting closer . It wants to eat"
I looked up and saw a full grown deer looking at us from about 20 ft away !
Thanks Fred !!! Without you and that box we would have missed a special moment .
Wishing all a Tagged night
Mishell

That is priceless, thanks for sharing and glad you had fun finding the box

We are just starting to plan another trip for DISNEY in May 2004.
We loved our ten days at WL last year - and I was whinking that maybe we should try a different hotel (gasp...the crowd roars...what is that woman thinking)

But as I look through all of Deb's pics I couldn't imagine going elsewhere...and reading this thread - I gotta do this... so it looks like back to WL we will go - even if it is only for a couple of days - splitting with 'something new' :p

What a great idea Fred!

Off topic - I don't want to be a thread thief but... how do I add WLVET to my siggy without loosing my tags? TIA

WL VET tagged has to approved by Kimmar067, Keeper of the Thread.

October 25, 2003. Our first day at WL and off to find Father Freds memory box.

My son John Luke and I love to explore, so this was such fun. With directions in hand we walked the trail and found the box. Actually, John Luke saw the "X" first. I was so excited. I took a green mickey head and put a memento from New York City in the box. Id love to hear from the next person that finds it, that they saw what I left:earsboy: :earsgirl: I loved reading everyone's contribution and looking at the pics and mementos.

Fred,,what a great idea that was. Thank you! Just as I put the box back, a family came by on a surrey bike, so we acted like we were just hiking along.

We ventured down the trail after finding the box. The trail was great. We saw some neat spiders, plants, birds, etc. In fact, as we were watching an ant colony and realized they were "Fire Ants" Yikes....run away! Beware,,they can inflict one heck of a bite for a tiny little ant. They were NOT near the memory box, so dont get scared off. My son and I are nature lovers (naturalists) and Im a volunteer park ranger, so we do stuff most people normally dont do ( like looking at insects with magnifying glasses, making lists of plants and birds, etc,,)

I hope all of you enjoyed finding the memory box as much as I did..It was very special!::yes:: and for all of you getting ready for your trip to WL, this event can be very magical. It was for me and my son.
