Wilderness Lodge DISrs Memory Box Thread

We visited the box 11/16/03 and it was very full. I had a few other things I wanted to leave but couldn't. Also, the log that the box is near has a mold on it that people may be allergic to. My arm barely grazed it and I broke out in hives. Here it is 3 days later and I still have marks. So be careful and follow the directions and you will easily find the hidden box. We had a ball looking for and finding our treasure.
We left our names, a group photo from Epcot the day before, a note and a PassPorter pin.

Just back from WL late yesterday, made two trips to find the Memory Box....Sunday Nov 16th myself, nephew and his girlfriend had the entire day at the WL I was taking the day to let my injured knee recuperate a little, plus my nephew had to drive back to Gainsville he, and friend had classes Monday morning.

At apx 1:00 we start, as we are walking I tell them we must be careful not to let anyone see what we are doing as this is a stealth mission, also that we may encounter wildlife some friendly, some hostile....(my grown nephew informs Bella GF and myself that during the early afternoon we wont be seeing any wildlife that all sould be OK) We take about three steps......then we all jump startled as three beautiful deer run though the undergrowth..I look at Bella as she looks at me then we both turn on DN...."Ah, I ment raccoons." We started laughing then proceeded, we found the box and walked away from hiding location to look though contents I had explaned about the box and how Majestic had started it last September, loved reading the cards and seeing momentoes. WE all loved the New York City Twin Towers post card that Starz723 left, Thanks Marge, we thought that it should be left with the box so everyone can experience seeing the New York Skyline as it once was. We pack everthing back in the box and placed it back in the hiddy place.
We walked back to the lodge to have late lunch at WCC and decide what I should add to the box. (Great lunch and Tumbleweed was our server)....We had a plan, DN and Bella headed for DTD, (after a hunt for Hidden Mickey's at the Lodge.) I was ready to revisit the Memory Box to add my mementoe.

Monday Nov 17th, return visit myself, sister, and 6 year old nephew.....DS and DN had been at AK yesterday when I had visited the box. This trip I let nephew read instructions and lead the way he was so physched and made DS keep a look-out during the hike to box so no one would see us. We didn't encounter any animals this trip, but when he saw the X on the tree he yells, "X MARKS THE SPOT" and found the Memory Box. He was so excited and decided to choose the Pooh erasers as a momento from the box. I added my card and special something for Majestic in the box and returned it to the hidding place ready for the next DIS explorer.

FloridaCat we need a bigger box....It's hard to place lid back on.

P.S. When I called my grown nephew's Mother last night I asked if he and Bella had a good time....she said all they talked about was some Memory Box hunt you went on???? I laughed and gave her the information, so now she wants to hunt for MB next trip the May.

THANK YOU FRED.....

What a great report!! We will be on our own "Secret Mission" to find the box over New Year's. Hope we see some wildlife and maybe some animals, too:p !

We found the box with no problem on 11/3. We did not bring anything to leave, so we did not take anything out. No wildlife spottings either, just an early morning jogger!

I will be back to WL on 11/30 and will look for the box again. I hope to bring something to leave in it this time.

This was so much fun! The kids, and the adults, really enjoyed the treasure hunt! Thanks!

Gretchen

Keep the stories coming! It's great to hear the adventures everyone has finding the box. I am working on a possible return trip in the next few months. Can't wait to go find it myself and heck, I may even consider RELOCATING it to somewhere else! Ya never know! :)

DH and I found the box on Tuesday, Nov. 18. We got a little confused with the directions, but we were very tired. lol Once we got ourselves corrected, it was easy to find. I made DH check for snakes and stuff, but there were none around. We left two "I touched a shark" stickers from Underwater Adventures at the Mall of America in Minnesota. The box is getting pretty full.

Thanks, Fred! It was fun to find and see others who have been there before. :)

Im so glad you saw the NYC Twin Towers Post Card. I agree that its one of the mementos that should stay for everyone to see. Next time I will bring something extra so that someone can take something.

Fred: I have pics of me holding the box. Ill send to you for your personal library.

I think that it is so neat that we are getting such joy from going on this little adventure. Its the little things in life that bring us happiness and this is one of them.::yes:: ::yes::

Also, can someone going soon make sure that the X on the tree is still easily visible?

Thanks!

Fred

Majestic,

The X on the tree was very visible last week, Blake saw it first and knew exactly which direction to go in.

Thanks! Guess you could say that I left my mark at Disney! :)

Hopefully by Sunday,,thats my first day off, except for tomorrow (Thanksgiving, if I get a break tomorrow, Ill send! :D )

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL MY WL FAMILY.

We'll be going on Dec. 15 and that'll be the FIRST thing we do when we check in! We can't wait! What a terrific idea!!

Going back to the box 12/4, any requests?

Found the box on 11/23 and all is well! Dh thought I was crazy when I whipped out my printed instructions and said we have to find the WL memory box! The kids thought it was great fun (and it was). We left a momento from Wisconsin and signed the card. Thanks Majestic, we had a blast. It was a great idea and a fun addition to our trip!

Is it hard to become the "Flag Family." Because i thought it would be a neat little thing to do with my kids.

LOL -- all you folks really need to look into geocaching.
www.geocaching.com

Geocaching & WDW are my 2 FAVORITES things. So of course, we'll be doing your memory box if time allows! Just popping over to WL to see decorations. Only going to be at WDW for 1 night :( to see MVMCP while visiting FL with my 73 yr old parents (who co-incidentally have geocached with us before.)

Oh....just a tip. If container full, people can start placing their trade items or the log book in ziplock bags in the box to help keep them dry. That's what cachers do. :D

I got the whole idea from reading about geocaching. :)

To be honest though, I was a little miffed when I realized I did the whole plan WITHOUT getting GPS coordinates! UGG!

I wouldn't want this posted on the geocaching website but privately, if anyone gets the coordinates, please PM them to me. :)

If not, I will get them next time I go down.

Glad that everyone is having a good time with the box. So far a good # of people have found it and enjoyed the experience. I hope that lasts for years to come.

On another note, wanna know who's going when you are going? See the link in my signature. It's my latest and greatest toy for us DIS'rs. :)
