Hey Fred, let us know if its still there...I'm curious! We figured it was the end of the year anyway, so we left it...I hope its still there for you...let us know.

:teeth:ENJOY your trip!:teeth:

It was there as of 3:00 today, guarded by a turtle that wondered off the path. I signed my card and left a pressed penny from my collection. wish I could have left more but didn't have any pictures or stuff from my hometown. The box is almost completely full. I took pictures that I will post when I get home (sunday)

Bobbiwoz, we were just a little bit behind you this past weekend in finding the box. We left our information and also a DFW New Beetle club card. We enjoyed our journey in finding the box.

Thanks for the offer but, considering the eyes only secrecy of this mission, please refrain from posting images of the box and it's contents or whereabouts. This would of course ruin it a bit for others who have not yet found it.

I hope you understand. :)

Merry Christmas!!

Fred

sure thing, I didn't see the message in your first post until afterwards. I understand
Merry Christmas to everyone. My vacation has been a good one so far, Christmas down here is beautiful.

We found the box on Dec. 9. Maybe it was my family who ran into people also looking for the box! It was full and open but we managed to close it.

As we were reading the instructions, a CM came by in a cart and helped us-----actually he pointed us in the wrong the direction and left. We didn't trust his help and when we saw the big 'x' we know that he didn't know what he was talking about!

This was one of the hilights of our trip. It is a great idea!! We left a NYC FD pin and a maraca and took a Santa Sooner ornament! Can't wait to do this next year!

Yikes..open is not good. Hmmmm.. Fred,,,hurry up and get there!

You mentioned a CM. Unless the CM posts on this thread, they should have no idea what the box is. Its a secret from the general public.

I agree. No cast members are generally aware of this unless they were told by guests. I did initially let 2 cast members know when I was staying Concierge in September and they thought it was a good idea. There was a general consensus that if the wrong person found out they may get rid of the box or at least remove it but at the same time, nobody thought it was a bad idea.

That is why there is a phone number on the lid. Just in case someone finds it and doesn't know what the box is, they can at least call to get more info.

So, let's keep it a secret. Like I said, I hope to get GPS coordinates of the box next time I am down there and I plan on replacing the box. I am shopping for the perfect one as I write this. Was going to go with Aluminum but I still think that plastic is best for this environment. Metals would get too hot in the summer and let's remember, this box hasn't seen Florida summer weather yet. That's going to be a test. We may need to pile ice cubes on it. :)

Hope everyone had a Merry Xmas. :)

Fred

I just printed out the directions to the box and my kids are all excited about finding it when we visit WDW in March. I am going to start looking for a "local" item to leave, maybe something that says "Indiana U" on it... This was such a great idea you had. One more reason to look forward to Spring Break!

Fred, we are going to be there 2 days before you get there!! I'm so excited to hopefully be one of the last signers in the 'original' box. I've got to find something to bring now!! Can't wait..maybe we'll see you there!

Maybe you will catch me replacing the box!! The current box is about a 1 quart size. I was shopping for new ones today and I think it will be a 1 gallon size. It's a LOT larger so I hope that I can still hide it. I'm sure I will find a way. :)

Can't wait to go down and go through the stuff in the box. :)

I found the box on Dec. 28th! It was a shorter walk than I anticipated but well hid....and full!
Found a plastic shower cap on the path. Thought it funny, cuz I brought 2 with me in case I wouldn't want to touch anything. But I didn't need to use them.
It was fun looking at everything that has been left but I didn't take anything except a Mickey paint card. I left a post card of the city where I live (with a hidden Mickey!!), a few Disney stickers, a photo of my family and a small Mickey head paper punch--since he's universal, all tied up with a green ribbon.
We just got home today--had a great trip and was wonderful to be "home" again!!

Hey Fred,
Need a hand while your down there feel free to recruite me. Will be down there from the 16th-23rd and staying at VWL. Have visited the box twice since October and know my way around pretty good. So, if you want to meet up or need my help, let me know!!

Sounds like a plan! My plan is to take the box away from it's hiding spot, back to the hotel, do what I gotta do, then return the new one back. This way I have less chance of being caught and I have more time to inspect the contents. :)

Of course, I will be saving the first box as a momento. :)

Heck, maybe I will auction it off to the highest bidder and donate the money to charity. Heh.

You are more than welcome to join me. I already sent you my cell phone number in a PM. ::yes::

Fred

We are going to look for the box tomorrow. :) I'm so excited to see what it looks like and what's inside.... I hope it's still there!!

I'm gonna be looking for the box again next Saturday- we'll be staying at WL on Saturday night and moving to BCV"s for the week- so, if we don't get there on Saturday- we'll get there sometime next week.... this time we'll be going in the daylight. Now I just have to think of something to leave from Oregon............any suggestions?!?!?

We just arrived back late last night and went on our "hunt" Jan. 4. We didn't get back to the Lodge until after dark, but I didn't want the girls to miss out on our last surprise of the trip! Turned out to be one of their favorites. It was pitch black when when we started and we were armed with only the directions I had re-typed and a small flashlight. It was great going down the paths, we could hear animals in the bushes and the moon was beautiful. We found the box pretty quickly considering we could hardly see and left an armadillo sticker with a Texas flag on it in the box. It was hard to get the lid back on. My girls can't wait to go back in November and take my dad who is very "woodsy" and they said we had to go back when it was dark again!! Thanks for the great memory and all the fun!!

Michele

Glad to read the everyone is still having fun with the box. I can't wait to go back down to revisit it after 4 months. It's one of the biggest things I look forward to for our next visit.

I was thinking of moving it to a new location but the place it's in now seems so favorible for access and ease of locating. I think I will leave it. Why "fix it if it isn't broken"???

I like the idea of changing locations- that way it becomes another challenge for those of us that will visit it more then once- but I' only change it once a year- that way you're not having to fly down there to change the hiding spot all the time! ;)
