Last year my DS6 got a little bit of motion sickness on the only coaster we tried, Thunder Mountain. This year, we want to try Test Track. How does it compare to Thunder Mountain?
I think he would be ok on test track. It isn't a coaster, but it is hard to describe just what it is. It takes you through the test that a new car would go through. Onve very small part is a bit jerky, but the fast par is very smooth, and is on what looks like a race track (smooth, with banked turns, no dips etc)
Thunder mountain is definitely the wilder one. I think Test Track is pretty lame and extremely overrated. We did it twice and it was two times too many. My 4 y/o would think it boring compared to my driving!
Once you get thru the indoor "testing" (hill climbing, suspension, ride handling, environmental chamber test, etc), you will go outdoors to the high speed test track. And I do mean high speed. But there are no ups and downs like a coaster ride. It's smooth and FAST. My 5 year old DGD loved it, so you son probably will too.
My DS10 gets motion sickness on rides with drops and doesn't like TM for this reason. On our last trip he was very hesitant about trying TT because on the monorail it said it was the fastest ride at WDW. While we were waiting for DH other DS10 to get off TT by the picture pick up the CM there was so nice and told him that she doesn't ride any roller coasters and she loves TT. He wasn't too conivinced and then she gave us passes to get right to the front of the line. Well he tried it and then we couldn't get him off of it. It is now one of his favorite rides and he doesn't get the least bit sick. Even though the ride is fast outside, it is just like going around a high bank curve and there aren't any dips or plunges.
I hate to disagree but BMTRR is the only roller coaster I can handle and I would much rather go on it than the test track. I thought the test track was a nightmare!! However, my 12 year old and 19 year old love it. (but they will go on anything).
We rode Test Track for the first time in a couple years last week. I was disappointed by how much we got knocked around and how jarring the stopping was. The ride was terrible. The braking of the vehicle, when not in the brake test, was abrupt. We got stuck in the "corrosive" chamber. There was a jarring of the car, almost like we got rear-ended. We sat for a minute or two and then moved on. At the end of the "high speed" part, the braking was abrupt as it "pumped" the brakes to slow us down.
In my opinion, BTMRR is by far a smoother ride than Test Track, lately. If you can really compare the two rides at all.
Yes, I agree that the braking is rough and abrupt, but as DS gets motion sickness with drops and plunges, and TT does not have this, motion sickness does not appear to be a problem.
Test track is smoother and not as loud (except the truck horn) as MTM. It does have bumps, quick stops, but it is still the smoother of the two. And I love them both.
