Pirate Costumes:
I have seen so many different ones it's hard to describe. If you google pirate costumes and look at some of the pictures it will give you some ideas. I did that and it really helped a lot.
I have seen jeans cut off about knee length, then cut up the leg about 8 to 10 inches and left with a ragged uneven look. sandals and knee high boots. Some pants had vertical stripes and were cut the same way as the pants. Long vests ( to bottom of hips) again cut a jagged edge around the bottom of it. Sashes around the waist are very popular. Black or brightly colored striped sashes around the waist look great. You can just buy a small piece of material and hem the edges and you have a sash. No need to worry about straight seems. Nothing is perfect on pirate clothes. Men and women both with white shirts, long sleeves, puffy type sleeves and ruffles on the chest. I saw several men with black jeans on for the pants. I few had captain Hook costumes on. I saw a father and son with matching hook outfits. They give you a pirate bandana at dinner to wear too. I have a silver medallion necklace I wear that is the coin from the Pirates of the caribbean movie. I got it at WDW for $10 last year. I saw lots of bulky beads too. I have a skirt that is tan color with layered uneven edges I got at K-mart for $10, long sleeve white shirt, tan vest, tan boots with metal buckles a bandana, medallion necklace, a sash that is brown leather with a metal skull and crossbones on the front, and an eye patch. That is what I wear. hope that helps some. Also they have face painting on the ship and lots of kids have eye patches and a scar on their checks painted on which looks great too.
You will see some people who ordered entire outfits from costume shops on line. They look awesome, but I know they are a bit much for my budget. Although when its not close to Halloween you can get some good buys on line, but most have a NO return policy, so watch carefully.
Myself I would head for the thrift store to get some cheap clothes you can cut up, I did that for a couple of things and it worked great. Rips, tears and stains are all ok, so that makes it easy. I read one lady said her family would never throw out their old clothes, so she took them to make the pirate outfits. That got rid of the old clothes and made the costumes as well. Now they have to get new clothes because she cut them up for patches too, so they couldnt wear any of them again. she was very cleaver and sneaky too. A true mom!!!
Well I hope this has given you a few ideas. I'm sure others will have some ideas much better than mine.
Have a great Tuesday.
