Ok, here is our tux vs suits discussion. My husband is trying his hardest to find a suit. There is NO WAY I'm getting him in a tux. So, we are for the suit section ;)
I spoke to Kathy and she said that a suit is fine. Some wear suits and some tuxes. Her husband wears a suit. We are getting a Mickey tie, oops...make that a grumpy tie and putting it on with a suit.
I tried on my dress shoes to see if my toe could stand it. Sorry everyone, this country pumpkin might end up with tennis shoes on for "formal night" :confused3

Stephen is right. You are all in for a treat when you meet us! There is nothing formal about us.
And yes Shell, you are going to love Cullen! At first he'll act real shy, but after you're around him...watch out! There isn't a person who meets him who doesn't love talking to him. O' gone it, I forgot to tell you, watch what you say...he's a parrot! Right Stephen! :rolleyes1

Hope you had fun at DW Kathy. I went last week with Stephen and the kids. Too hot for me. Hope you have a cooler visit today.
94 degrees today folks! Then Tues. it will be 73! :yay: :yay:
Talk to you later,
Pat

Hello Everyone,
Do you think I have to dress up DS everynight for dinner too??? He won't be eating in the dining room. I am bringing Gerber Baby Food. I want to dress him for formal night the rest was going to be short sets or what is ever comfortable for him!!

Lynn - our DS was a little guy the first time we cruised..not as little as yours but it was my understanding that children that young are not expected to be dressed up every night. Do not worry about that at all. I think it's really cute that you're going to put him in a little tux though...I can't wait to see that.

Kelly

Lynn, I found a little tux coat w/ tales the other night at the tux place. I thought of you. My DH and DS will be wearing tuxes, and DS was so excited because they had mickey mouse vest and ties to go with them. There is my 2 cents. I am dressing to the 9's that night and my boys will be too. Would a tiera be TOO much? DH says im not a princess. princess: How dare he.

Hope everyone had a great weekend. We actually had a day off. So we are enjoying ourselves. (He's cooking me brunch as we speak)

For the fund.

WEnt looking for a regional gift today - this could be more difficult than I thought. . . How does one capture the call of the loon, the smell of wood smoke, the lapping of the lake on the shore and the color of the mountains in an ornament?

Hey guys ... just so we're on the same page, the regional gift does not have to be an ornament, but does need to be regional. For instance, Bill and I are getting something that is very Ohio, but would not work on a Christmas tree no matter how hard you tried :rotfl2:.

You may wonder why I'm on here so much today. Well, it's either post or clean the house. The choice is obvious :sad2: .

Kathy, we need a banana count, please!

Good idea tiara I think I want to wear it everyday on the cruise princess: princess: princess: !! I am a princess-DH doesn't think so :sad2: !!

TIARA! Now THERE's a stroke of genius if I ever heard one! princess:

My spouse will be wearing a suit or a dark blue sport coat with grey pants for formal / Semi Formal nights.

Lynn, All that baby food / diaper stuff sounds like the perfect contents for a "ship it to the ship package", if you ask me. (Not that you did, and you're right, i guess i'da got him up too, if I thought he was going to be up at midnight!) That baby is so cute you could bring him to dinner in a onesie and nobody will notice what he has on.

We probably won't do that tour - if a bunch were, we might, but it's not overwhelmingly compelling on it's own.

In that case, I found the perfect thing but it was $20 and weighed 5 pounds. I wasn't so concerned about the $20 but who is going to want to lug this thing home in their already overstuffed luggage?!

It was chilly (40's) , but we did yard work this morning, followed by a 2 hour nap. gotta LOVE these weekends!

Kathy, how was the world?

Hi everyone,
just got back from Animal Kingdom. It was very HOT, but we had a good time. Due to the animals hiding in the bushes, because of the heat we didnt see as many animals as we usually do, but we still saw plenty.

I did wave at several characters while we were there. Yes, they waved back too!!
It was kind of wierd too. As I was standing in line to have security search my bag a man about 30 years old didnt want to take off his fanny pack so they could search the back zipper. He said that was illegal and he didnt have to be searched.
He demanded the security man check his ID. He was a cop. Security said he would have to be searched like everyone else.
He really got mad and the security guard had to call a supervisor. In the mean time the man walked around the table and confronted a cop from the sheriff's department and showed him his badge too.
The on duty cop told him, outside laws do not apply here, EVERYONE must submit to a bag search or they cant go into the park. That is Disneys rules, no exceptions!!
This man was crazy, he was really mad and shouting about his rights???
By now the security supervisor came over and he was so friendly and introduced himself to the man and asked what the problem was.

The man yelled and hollered about it. As I finally got through security I could hear him telling him, I dont care about who you are, every bag, even disney workers must be searched or you cant go in!!
I dont know if he ever got in or not, but if that supervisor got his name and were he was a cop he could loose his job or get suspended without pay for along time, if he reported him.
You just cant flash your badge and walk in like you own the place.

Ok, suits or tuxes?? In this house the men wear suits not tuxes!!!
we may even go to the buffet this time because DS and his girlfriend will be at Palos that night anyway.

But on our past cruises most wore suits, yes there were a few tuxes which looked really great, but you wont feel out of place no matter whch one you decide to wear. Once you get in the dining room if you watch you will see tropical shirts, dockers, jeans, as well as suits and tuxes.
The choice is yours.

Lynn, dont worry about dressing up the baby. as long as he has some kind of clothes on, so he is" NOT streaking "in the dining room it will be fine.
Many babies wear shorts, booties, no shoes, just what ever is comfortable for them. And as i recall sometimes in the middle of dinner babies often have to change to a new set of clothes anyway?? :rotfl: At least mine did.

Tiara, go for it!!
On our August cruise my DD and GD bought me a princess tiara and brought it to dinner for me to wear, and I did!! I actually had 2 people compliment me on it. Now King Louie is wearing it as he swings from my chandeleir in the dining room.

Shell,

Ok we are now at 8315

Kathy

Hey Kathy!!! Congrats on post #3000---holy *&$#!
I'm glad you had a great time at Disney... Sounds like you got to see a show that wasn't scheduled with the cop....lol. That is one thing I do love about Disney AND about DCL. They have rules and you follow them. Those rules might make you angry or happy but their set down and clearly spelled out. Just seems a little less complicated to me(that and the adult pool IS the adult pool).

Oke doke...nuff of that rant and rave...
Have a great afternoon all!

HI Everyone,

Hope you are all enjoying your weekend. The weather stories from different partsof the country (OK, so with me included we can say Continent lol) are pretty interesting. We had a gorgeous day yesterday. I would guess around 55 degrees (about 10 degrees). We worked outside most of the day cleaning out the eavestroughs, raking and generally preparing for Old Man Winter. Today has been very rainy and dull unfortunately. We did manage to get DH a pair of 'dockers' type pants to go with our matching Disney Tropical outfits. So, that is all taken care of. As far a Formal Night - the men-folk will be in Tuxes (we are renting DHs) and I will be in *something* - still tbd. Semi-formal is a bit up in the air. I have something and DS has something but I am not sure about DH. We do not dress up much other than at weddings and DH does not own a suitjacket. We actually went to Moore's today to find out what suit jacket size he is so I can order the tux online. I think he will be wearing a white formal shirt and tie with dress pants for semi-formal night. LIkely the same for Palo. Can you wear a tux jacket without the rest of the tux??? I have heard you guys mention it but wouldn't that look a little weird? Anyway, our pirate outfits all are ordered so now I just pray they arrive in time from our ebay sellers. I seriously think we will have one suitcase for pirate stuff alone - sad but true LOL.

I will try and work on my regional gift this week. I have some ideas, but it likely won't be an ornament unless you want a Toronto Maple Leafs ornament - which I doubt many people do LOL. (PS - do we have anyone from WIsconsin, because you could always wrap Brent Favre up for me. I'd hang his tree anyday  ).

We're off to try a Chinese/Sechuan place tonight, hopefully it is good - always a bit of fingers crossed when trying a new restaurant!

Talk to everyone soon - I cannot wait to meet you all in person!!!!!!!!!!

Sarah

PS - FL residents - does Target have sumemr type stuff all year round - like waterwings, swimshoes, capris etc etc?? We have the Friday all day in Cape Canaveral and there are a few things I would like to pick up that they don't carry up here becuase the 'season' is over. Also - anyone know any other good stores in that area?? What is this Koh;'s I keep hearing about - is it a dept store like Sears??

Thanks Bill,
I never really watched how many posts I had for such a long time that I had NO idea I was even close to 3000.

I have several tales of people at WDW that just dont get it!! But I cant talk about them. My DS has really run across some strange ones while working there. Plus some really great ones who are famous.
Some of the nicest were Michael J. Fox, John Travolta and his wife, a couple famous football players, basketball players and the guy who played Willow. I cant remember his name.

The one who wanted to make sure everyone knew who he was, was Hugh Hefner. :snooty:
He was at Epcot when my son worked there a year ago and he had on his purple smoking jacket, his pipe in his mouth and 3 bunnies on each arm. My son wanted to offer to give "them" a private tour of Epcot, but it didnt work out. :rolleyes1

The most obnoxious one was Michael Jackson. I cant say what he threw a childish fit about, but he really acted worse than a 5 year old having a tantrum because he couldnt have what he wanted. :furious:

On the other hand his sister Janet was just so nice and friendly to everyone, even taking pictures with cast members which is forbidden unless the celebrity offers without being asked.

Well it is about time to take Minnie for her evening walk, so better go. She is dancing by the door and whimpering. She loves her walks!!!

Sarah,
down on the coast you night find some summer clothes and shoes, but most of the stores have gone to winter clothing here already. DH had a terrible time finding a swim suit the other day.
When it gets down to 70 people here wear long pants, jackets, I have even seen gloves and hats and it was 70 degrees out??
I am still in my shorts at 70 and my neighbors think I am crazy!!!

But I wouldnt count on it as a sure thing. I havnt gone to the coast that much, only to the port, so I am not sure what stores they have there. Maybe Pat or Steve will know??

Kathy

Sarah - do you have the red and tan hawaiian print matching outfits? If so, when are you wearing them? Wouldn't want to make a Dis dress faux pas!

DH is wearing his tux (we bought it on Ebay a few years ago and certainly got our money's worth). He's taking another sports coat with khakis for semiformal night. DS has a dark suit from his first holy communion so he'll wear that for formal night and then re-wear the jacket with khakis on semi formal night.

I was so happy to get the deal of the century on my formal dress yesterday at Ross. They had a gown marked down for 14.99!!! Plus, I had a credit in my wallet for $7.99 so I walked out with a new dress for $7. Nevermind that I now need to buy shoes and a shawl to match...the dress was a deal!

My back is hurting again and I think I've been doing too much and haven't given it time to heal. Probably back to the doctor this week for more meds. Gotta get better for our trip!

WHERE ARE OUR COUNTERS? And, what about those Fighting Irish???? :bounce: :woohoo:

This should be a fun guessing game ... hmmm ... :scratchin $20, 5 lbs, from New York ... :scratchin Cement shoes? No no, you're not from the city :rotfl: (You say "call of the loons" and all I can think of is Katharine Hepburn in "On Golden Pond" calling out to them when they got to the cabin :rotfl2: )

Tonya, you've really started something with this tiara thing! How 'bout this one?

:goodvibes evening everyone......I have enjoyed all my fellow female princess statements. So as I am reading them, I asked Wally if I was a princess princess: he said no......I am a QUEEN!!!! :teeth: but he really dosnt treat me like one.... :confused3

So to all my fellow female trip mates......are we a princess or are we Queens :confused3 I really think that we should all bring tiara's and wear them....this way our men can bow down to us... :)

I still havent gotten my gift..I have to keep looking..not really sure which direction I'm going in...regional or ornament...

Denise

PS Wally will write soon.

One more question: Tonya the t-shirts...just curious if you ordered them yet, how did you want payment handled and are you sending them to us or handing them out at port?

thanks

I vote for QUEEN - It's Great to be Queen! But that is a wicked cute tiara with the purple princess on it.

Yes, we're far from New York City, here. It's about 150 miles as the crow flies, but it might as well be on the moon when we talk about the differences. I read the essay Lynn wrote and thought - that doesn't sound at ALL like the New York I know. . . which was the weekend Buffalo had 30 inches of snow and we had sunny and 60 . . . actually much of New York is rural or even wilderness!

I wonder when they'll post the dates for 2008?

Good Evening All Nana Heads!!!

On the subject of tuxes/formal night -- Dave will a sport coat and a Mickey Mouse tie. I've been on 6 previous DCL cruises and you'll see all types of dress. No one is out of place.

Jeff -- sorry about Pitt's loss to Rutgers. But I was rooting for Rutgers as my son, Jeff, got his masters there (freebie - he was a teaching assistant in the physics department).

MSU Spartans -- the come back kids!!! I fell asleep (while granddaughters were taking a nap) with them having 3 points on the screen and woke up to them winning.

Go Tigers -- Hope they win tonight. It's about 30 degrees at Comerica Park tonight.

We made plans tonight to get together next Sunday with Bob and Gitta for final cruise plans. Bob reminded me that we have 23 working days before vacation.

Busy and tired Grrandma heading to bed soon. We had Haley (4) and Bella (2.5) this weekend. Fun, fun, fun.
