Hello ... went to put the Wii on for the kids just awhile ago and it won't read a disc. Went through the troubleshooting (really only tells you to clean the disc) ... nothing ... tried different discs and again says it can't read it. The whole tv console had been off while we were away and I plugged it in when we got home. We haven't used the Wii since, but the remotes are working on the screen to choose options, just no disc.

I filled out a repair form on-line, but would prefer not to have to ship it off. Does any one have any suggestions as to what it is doing? DH found an upside down disc in the machine ... could this have caused the problems. Of course "no one" did this ... must have been the cats while we were away!! :sad2:

It has ticked me off ... the girls don't seem to care ... so of couse mommy is even more ticked off. I-yi-yi!!!!

Are you sure there is only ONE upside down disk in the machine?:rotfl2:

Have you tried putting in the disc both ways? Sometimes I forget which way the disc goes in so that the laser can read it.... If it doesn't read the disc one way, eject it and try the other way.

If all else fails then, yes, there is something wrong with the laser that reads the disc and you will need to get it repaired.

Hope that helps!

Clean the Lens of the Wii... To do that use Canned Air (unplug ALL Cords) and spray into the DVD Slot... The Lens is Dead Center about 2/3 of the way Back... A few Quick Blasts should do it... Then let the Wi sit for about 5 Minutes as Canned Air can cause Condensation on the Motherboard.

Is your Wii modded?

Just happened here, the wii needed to update itself and was fine the next morning.

All of these suggestions are great and definitely try them....but if you do have to ship it to nintendo to fix, we had to do that and they replaced our hard drive and it was not expensive and it was fast - they had it back to us in two days!! Good luck - we love our wii!!

We had the same problem with our Wii. I dropped the console off at the repair depot.

They fixed it, but not before accusing us of modifying our console with an illegal chip and trying to void the warranty
