Just wanted to report back that I did end up investing in it. Set it up yesterday, made my Mii (a chubby woman with brown hair and glasses -- hmmmm, where have I seen her before?), and tried a few programs. Setting up the Wii and the Wii Fit took me 45 minutes; I spent 15 minutes on the Wii Fit. Turns out I am "unbalanced" (didn't need a computer to tell me that). I tried:

Soccer -- Bounced a few balls off my head, but also got hit with assorted garbage. Ouch!

Tight Rope -- I made it across once but fell into the abyss more times than I remember. :sad2:

Skiing -- I was convinced both Mii and me would end up in traction, but we did OK.

Hula Hoops -- I was much better at that when I was 7. Apparently, the past "few" (OK, many!) years haven't been kind. I can't get the stupid thing to stay twirling. Truly pathetic.

Table tipping -- No go.

It seems like I'm exaggerating my movements and still not getting the response I want. Either that or I THINK I'm doing it correctly and am so hopelessly uncoordinated that I am not doing anything near what I'm supposed to be.

I was happy to see that Wii Sports was included. I can't wait to try golf and tennis!

You'll have hours of fun with this! I like the way you unlock more games / more difficult levels the longer you play.

Wii tennis is good fun too.

I need to get a Wii Fit. I think I'm sold on the idea. I'm going to go this weekend buy one.

Fit is awesome! I was on it for 72 minutes the other day and didn't even get to play all the games I wanted to do. I literally had to stop and get in the shower or I would have been late for my dinner plans that night!

I think the bubble and penguin are the only things I don't particularly like, but that is probably because I suck at both! :confused3

Any more updates regarding the wii fit? :cheer2:

Are you still happy with it? Does it still keep your interest?

Thanks for the info.

I've been using it a lot since I bought it the day it came out. I have lost interest in most of the balance games and am looking forward to new games that use the balance board. I just bought We Ski but haven't had a chance to play it yet.

I really like the advanced step and advanced boxing but I wish there were different programs or had some kind of randomization to them.

I created two programs for myself that combine all the strength training and yoga. I alternate these programs and try to do them 4-5x per week. Each program takes me an hour and gives me 30 fit credits.

I've lost 8 pounds since I started using Wii Fit! :cool1:

I love the wii fit! It's really fun! I like the hula hoop the best...or more like watching people trying to hula hoop

My only complaint so far is I don't think it's healthy to watch the scales/BMI so closely. I like doing the body test challenges, but I don't want to see my weight/BMI every day. It makes one too anal about normal fluctuations in weight (which can be up to 5 pounds over a day!)

We just got the Wii fit today!
I set up my character and ended up doing 60 minutes worth of credits.
I opened up a bunch of things, it's really fun!
Definately gives you a workout.

I wouldn't depend too much on the BMI and weight calculator.
I did it when I first entered my mii and it was off on my weight about 10 pounds.
Then I worked out for about an hour and took it again just for fun and it told me I'd gained 5 pounds, I was 1 point up on my BMI and my fit age was up 13 years!

I'll definately be using it daily.
I really like it.

I also own a Wii fit, and I like it, number one reason is because I'm a plus, plus size person and I can still get up on it.

I hate yoga though, I'm just to dang big for that, but I have a fondness for the free steps, I really like that part, so I have been working my way up to 3000 steps and I feel like I've really done something. :yay:

OK, I really want one! Only problem is, we'll have to get a Wii first!!:lmao:
Oh well--maybe we'll have to get the kids one for Christmas and just borrow it real often!!:rolleyes1

How much of a workout does one really get from the wii fit? I have asked for one for my birthday (coming up soon!!). We have the wii with several games and we love it. I am the champion bowler :woohoo:. But lack in golf, boxing, baseball....well, all the other sports :confused3 !

My husband got me WiiFit for my birthday. So far I really like it, but have only used it twice. I plan on using it 2 days a week on my cross training days for my marathon training.

I did not know you can create programs for yourself. Do you mean you do certain games in a sequence, or is there a way to program what you want?

Sorry I was pretty vague about that. It doesn't track programs. You need to do it yourself. It's easier to visualize my programs when you are on your Wii Fit but I basically do the strength training in blocks of six. I do the left two columns of three rows in one program and then the right three columns of two rows in the other program. I don't do the challenges. Basically, programs A and B we'll call them look like this on the screen where C are the challenges:

AABBB
AABBB
AACCC

As I do each strength exercise, I switch over to do whatever corresponding yoga pose(s) each one asks to do to complete the workout. I don't do the shoulder stand because, well, I just can't. I also don't do the one where your arm is in the air and you have to lay down and stand up quickly because it makes too much noise and my Wii Fit is above my sleeping DD's room!

I also throw in the Tree yoga pose in A since it would have gone with the shoulder stand. I think this covers all of the yoga poses except for the first breathing one.

These time out almost exactly to 30 fit credits each and take me close to an hour, giving me plenty of time to lay on the floor, gasp, and curse modern technology inbetween exercises. :scared:

HTH!

How much of a workout does one really get from the wii fit?

For me it does a lot. I wear a heart rate monitor to make sure i am "in range." It is pretty easy to keep your self at a good pace with the hula and sometimes the step and boxing. The strength and balance ( i don't do the yoga-go to yoga class instead) sit at the "low" end of the heart rate, but that is understandable. I burn anywhere from 200 to 500 calories in an hour of wii fit, depending on how ambitious I am and how much I "get into it."

Thanks for that clarification, Steve.

Raenstoirm, how do you count the calories? Also, I have not figured out how to create my Mii. I am still Guest E

i, too, own a wii and wii fit.

I, too, love them both.

I wish there were more "active" games using the fit.

I love bowling, tennis, and golf on the sports side.

I shoot for 30 credits at least 4 days a week. i've been pretty successful so far. The fit is easy to follow, easy to use, and can be really fun. especially if you have several people using it... You can try to beat each other's score's on all the games... :)
Great incentive to Keep Exercising!

Thanks for all the info!!! :thumbsup2

Can you find the Wii Fit at places like Best Buy or Walmart? Or do you have to buy it over the internet? :confused3 I have never seen it anywhere - but then I have never really searched for it.

TIA!

My heart rate monitor does it for me. It take into account your weight and heart rate and time. As for creating your mii, on the main screen there are 4 circles in each corner. One is return to wii menu, one is settings, one is guest and one is create a mii. You just "grab" your general mii (from wii sports, etc) and put in your stats, and it will tell you your weight and balance.

Right now it is still really hard to come by. Stores sell out within hours of getting them in stock. It is even hard to buy on the internet for that matter. ;)

I got wii fit about 2 months ago and have lost about 10lbs just from 'working out' on it for about 30 minutes a day and drinking 6 bottles of water!!!

One thing I have learned about the balance games, it is more the weight on your lower legs than moving upper body. It was hysterical watching me play the soccer game - I would move my head and not my lower body. After doing the skiing for awhile, I realized what to do on the other games.
So try shifting your weight through your legs. And let me tell you, that works the lower body so well since you do it with you knees bent.

I love mine but I need to move it into a room that I can use it more.
