Wifi on CC

Not to rain on your parade, but thats one of the best part of cruises that you can "disconnect yourself" from everything else and relax. It's always funny to me to see people going through withdrawls on the ship the first night.

OP, I have never had much luck getting wifi on the island, but as the other person said, you can get it on the ship for sure. I never understand why others say that we should not remain connected. If you want to be totally disconnected, that's fine. If you want to remain connected, that's fine too. In all 12 Disney cruises, I always remain connected, I like it that way. I like staying connected to work too. Work is how I manage to afford Disney cruises.

Thanks - I don't plan to purchase the ship's plan as I don't see us using it enough to justify the cost for us. But, I was curious about the potential to use the free international t-mobile data plan on CC, if the need or want arises ;).

If you sign up on the first day you get 50 mb of ship wi-fi free.

T-mobile access would require a cellular tower within range.

TMobile has a map for international coverage; parts of the Bahamas do have coverage: http://www.t-mobile.com/optional-services/roaming.html?icid=WMD_TM_INTRNTNLVR_N8J6LRGJILD2658

According to the map, Castaway Cay has coverage, 2G speeds. Others may be able to tell you if that is accurate.

might be a little late to this, but....

we did a 7 night EC cruise on the fantasy in February 2017. T-mobile was great. While 2G isn't fast by any means, it is free. It worked pretty well on CC. And texting was easy. If you try to send pictures over texting, it will be slow.

This February I was able to access the Internet from my T-mobile phone while the ship was docked at both Nassau and Castaway Cay. I only checked e-mails, so I can't speak much for the speed, but I was able to check in with my office without using the ship's WiFi.

There could be other reasons why someone wants to remain "connected" and it shouldn't be for any one of us to place our preferences or values on them. For instance, my parents cruise very frequently, they need to remain somewhat connected for the sake of my brother (who has issues with mental illness at times) as well as for a relative who has some serious medical conditions. So it may not always be for work (and even if it is, it may be that this is the only way some can vacation, by being available).

There is cellular service (international rates of course), but we've never detected wifi while on the island of CC.

I have T Mobile. In Oct 2016 and March 2017, I had great service on CC. I was able to check email, post pics to FB, etc. Service was slow in Nassau

As of about a year ago, there is WiFi in many guest areas of CC. But it's an extension of the ship's WiFi, not "free WiFi" that many people look for in other ports. If you have a WiFi acct on the ship, you can use it on CC now.

I've had good luck with phone and data service via Verizon. I have the international Verizon plan which in most places around the world gives you access to phone and data based on your US plan, for $11 day. Since we have unlimited data and phone/message service, we don't have to pay any international rates, just the 11 a day. If my husband needs to call his office or check his email, this makes good sense for us when we are on land. I have limited success with wifi on castaway...it goes in and out. As to wifi on the ship, I always get the max package and seem to use it up. It has always worked well and I can check emails, read the DiS boards and Facebook, etc.

If you are on the Eastern you should get free coverage in St Thomas as a US territory.

Not true for all cell carriers. Best to check with your provider.

I know that when we cruised back in 2011 and stopped at St Thomas, AT&T didn't charge us any extra when we used our phones while on the island since it is a US territory. They also shows St Thomas on their US coverage maps.

I can't say if this is true for the other carriers.
