Ok, this episode was very disturbing on so many levels. Why did the raw family think living in that filth and squalor was good for them?? The sinks, the toilet, the shower --- y-u-c-k. How did that city woman sleep there??

Making these kids work 10 hours days and have no formal schooling? Aren't there state laws that require homeschoolers to teach public school curriculum in some form? To hear the teenage boy say his math practice consisted of counting animals made me sad. Parents should want to expose their children to many forms of literature, math, art, history, music. Parents are supposed to want a better life for their kids.

As for their diet, why didn't the raw family have plenty of fresh vegetables and fruits to eat raw? It seemed they were fixated on eating raw meat. The raw mom did try and get the city family to drink some vegetables, but why not push fruits? Why not eat whole, raw vegetables instead of juicing them together?

When they whipped out the mud and butter toothpaste, well I was just sick. Better they just brush their teeth with plain water. Did you notice the raw mom's teeth and gums? I'm no dentist, but I could tell that she had some stage of gum disease going on just by looking at them. The gums were red and inflamed; they looked puffy, unhealthy.

I know they choose polar opposites to switch on that show. I often wonder where they find all these weirdos. But that raw family really upset me. I think what they are doing is a form of abuse to those children. At least neglect.

My centaments exactly...her gums were sooooo gross. Bet she looses her teeth in a few years.

those poor kids...I think the son got so upset because he has no social skills. He does not know how to deal with other people. They are away from everything. No friends except for the animals and there crazy parents...

Those kids mostley the son will be stuck on that farm for the rest of there lives because they will have no idea how to survive on the outside world...and where would he find a wife...

Hope they have a lot of sheep...What you dont like sheep...

I think they need to see Dr. Phil...could you see Dr Phill with that Family...what a show that would be

We have raised many chickens and would never eat raw chickens. Why? Think about it chickens eat EVERYTHING including there own poop. Nuff said. GROSS. Farm raised or not if you have animal feces on your hands when you slaughter them and don't wash your hands, UGH! And I am originally from Nebraska. Poor Iowa.

I don't know about the laws in Iowa but in NC you can do whatever curriculm you want. The only requirement is that you take one standerized test a year. I highly doubt that thoes kids could pass a test. I think my dad had to send in a copy of my grades with my test scores too. I agree that if you want to help your kids in life you should give them a well rounded education. I think that these parents are really hurting there kids. I can see wanting to homeschool to keep your kids away from teaching that you don't agree with but not teaching them anything so they can work on a farm all of there life and never question anything you say is just wrong.

un-schoooling is STUPID!

Parents are lazy in the education department.

They dont want thier kids to grow mentally and think for themselves. They dont want them to leave the farm. Who would do the work?

Regular homeschoolers are diffrent.

You can count the chickes and eggs so many times.

Also to be in the Ag. business you need to be rather smart in science, math. most people who farm around here have college degrees in Ag. Science.

This family makes rural people look like freaks. We are not!

Did I hear wrong on the show or did the mom say SHE had no formal Education? I thought she told the dad she was living with that. Our local radio station had a place for people to comment on the show and one woman who posted said she "graduated from high school with the mom and went to the same 2 year college" to me thats education. Maybe I heard her wrong and she meant just her KIDS had no education

I'm not a fan of the Duggar family, but next to Raw Family they seem perfectly adjusted and "normal." At least their kids are encouraged to learn through a formal home school program, and I believe that the skills that they have learned while building that house will actually help them as adults--as opposed to counting chickens.

The Duggar home always seems very clean and orderly, you never see those kids or their parents having crazy outbursts that IMHO indicate mental illness,

Yeah, that's what I thought she said too.

From what I gathered, she didn't want her kids to go to school because school's "boring."

I am embarassed to say I caved and watched it OMG such freaks. And those poor kids, brainwashed. The boy was scarey, I would imagine he gets that from dad. The fact that they live in such filth is horrendous. No bathing, WTH? There is no reason in the world that those people should live in filth. They were all capable human beings. If you don't "do" chemicals, use some friggn homemade soap. Jeesh, just when you think it can't get any worse and they pull out the high meat. Sickos.

I was completely disgusted by the licking of the floors...she could have at least used water....there is nothing in it either. Why must you lick??? Eww.

Raw diet aside, that home was filty and the conditions were nothing short of squalor. That in itself is neglectful in just about eery state out there. If they ahd animals living in those conditions, USDA or local ACC would step in. But they can keep their kids like that and it's OK. Wow. Just wow.

And CPS found it necessary to investigate ME just because my 4 year old (at the time) daughter wet her pants at school a couple of times.

Well the speculation on the other website I was reading is that they likely cleaned up the house before they had the visit. However, it's unlikely they were able to clean the mold off the walls and clean that house up enough for it to be considered just slightly untidy! There have also been a number of people & reporters who have tried contacting Barb Haigwood (the Mom), but she has told everyone she can't talk without them going through the ABC offices first.
