Pageant mom--hard-core..swapping with a family that lives quite naturally (in the woods, no tv, organic foods).

This is going to be a funny culture shock!

We have some stupid Steelers Primetime on our ABC channel right now. :(

I love how pageant mom thinks that free-thinking child is "brainwashed".

Whats wrong with thrift store clothing?? I have gotten some great things at good will? I don't have to shop at Lord and Taylor to be happy. But I guess I am more like the natural mom than the pageant mom.

Deanna :bored: :cat:

Well the free-thinking child does think she wants a hamburger and her mom won't let her. :rotfl2:

Poor kid is in tears b/c the pageant mom is going to make her do a pageant. :guilty:

It's not so funny--it actually is pretty sad.

Dad needs to get a clue though---the teaser has him demanding scientific evidence that the family's diet is unhealthy.

Nothing wrong with it--but she did have a point...a $5 budget for clothes for the girl (only we don't know how often this $5 is budgeted)...while the mom spends a bunch on her paints and such.

I wonder how much money these moms are given for the weeks. A big screen TV, Using makeup as paint. I hope they get an allowance.

dumb question--if the free thinkers don't watch any tv...how did she know about this show so that she could apply?

I think they are using what was in the makeup kit...but you make a good point.

I think they would need something--b/c maybe a family's budget doesn't support the swapping wife's changes to make it like her home.

I was thinking the same thing. I wonder if a lot of this is staged.

I never thought about it. Maybe she has friends who clued her in.

I never undertsand why people boohooo so much about not having TV for a week.

One thing that stands out to me...you really are not a 'free thinker' if you are indocrinated into a specific lifestyle of 'free thinking', in that case, it has been chosen for you and it's all you know... You are a free thinker if you step outside your norm.

I just always think it is funny when parents talk about raising their children to be 'free thinkers', but also have a long laundry list of things they don't want their kids to agree with or be exposed to...

This show is my husband's secret guilty pleasure! We're stuck with the Steelers too, but here Wife Swap will be on at 1 am, so you can bet he's recording it!

Reminds me of the non-conformists when I was in high school.

Little did they know, they were conforming with one another.

OMG - I KNOW THE PAGEANT PEOPLE! Well, I don't know the mom but I went to high school with the dad. I think he was one or two classes before me! My mom called me tonight and said, "You have to watch WifeSwap - people from Beechmont are going to be on it!" The little town I grew up in is right down the road. I turned it on at the beginning and didn't recognize the mom and then the dad came on and I about fell in the floor! I called my best friend from high school and yelled "Michael Yonts is on tv and his daughters are pageant queens!" She thought I was nuts and then we watched the whole show on the phone together! I don't know why I found it so funny - it was kind of sad really. I think both moms would do well to loosen up a little.

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Honestly - I thought they would make little Muhlenberg County, Kentucky look worse. It wasn't that bad!
