Wide/Prime for Canon?

I've got a Canon T2i with the "basic-three": 18-55IS, 55-250IS and 50mm/1.8 (the nifty-fifty).

I *love* what I can accomplish, quality-wise, with the 50mm, but I usually find it a little too long for museums and interior shooting (which is mostly where you'd really want a 1.8!).

I've looked at the well-regarded Sigma 30mm/1.4.

Does anyone have any other suggestions for wide-angle primes I should look into? Anything good down in the 18mm-24mm range?

About $500 is the upper limit I can spend, and that would be as a combined birthday and Christmas present! :lmao:

There is the Canon 28mm 2.8, Canon 28 1.8, Canon 14mm 2.8, etc.

But for your budget on a crop model the Sigma 30mm 1.4 is probably the best
you can look at used prices for lens here:

How about selling one of your kids and going UWA with the Tokina 11-16 f/2.8???? It would add a whole new range to what you can do, but still maintain the 2.8. I think they are around $700.

If you can't do that, then I would vote for the 30mm f/1.4. That 50mm f/1.8 is a great bargain, but I find it too tight indoors too, which is where you really want that fast speed. I know many here love the lens, but I find it too long to be a wide lens, and too wide to be a long lens. I think I've used it once since I bought it.

Adorma has the Tokina 11-16 f/2.8 for $659.

I'm trying to scrape up enough side jobs / extra income to afford one before I go to Hawaii & DLR in September.

You know if you REALLY wanted it you'd sell one of the kids......

The prime lenses mentioned above are good choices. I had both the Canon 28mm 1.8 and Sigma 30 1.4 before I let go of my Canon gear. I really liked both of them. Although, there were times I wished I had an even wider prime lens. This prompted me to look at the Canon 20mm 2.8. Not as fast as the others, but it's something to look into.

Don't think I'd get much for the one that's outta college, or the one that's in college. But DD4 is priceless, so I'm not getting rid of her! Who would I buy princess dresses for if I got rid of her?!!?!?!?!?!?!

Just need to find somebody out there that needs some freelance writing or an iPhone program. :-)

The Tokina 12-24 F4.0 has been good to me.

Of course, if you can swing it the Tokina mentioned by other posters is great too. It's just a little more expensive.

You may also consider the Tamron 17-50 f2.8 non-VC version. It is under $500 and is supposedly really good.

I remember these shots from when you got the Tokina 12-24. Always love that baseball bat shot!

LOL! Can't say as I blame you! With 2 older ones, you know how fast that adorable princess phase will pass. Enjoy it. 4 was my favorite princess age.
