Saturday 7/3
We get up early and say buh-bye to AKL. We'll be back! This was an awesome resort. When I booked this resort I was fine with the standard view. We decided when we come back we'll book a room with a Savannah view on the Giraffe trail,3rd floor.
When I planned out trip,I wanted to experience 2 resorts. I knew we wouldn't be back to WDW for 4 more years and our vacation was long enough that we could spend a week at each resort. I picked the Dolphin for 2 reasons: its convenient location and Karen's teacher discount. Plus, all the great things I heard about this resort here on the DIS. On the way over to the Dolphin,I'm thinkin' I hope we're not disappointed. These 2 resorts couldn't be more opposite.
We drive up and there it is,"the Cod". The big tacky fish.
A Bellhop loads all our stuff and he and Karen go to our room.
I park our car in East Overshoe. Oh,yeah. I remember reading about this parking lot...... its far,far away!!
When I finally get back to the hotel,I'm happy to see how nice the lobby is! Karen's there to meet me because she knows I woulda never found the room! East, west, central elevators. By the time I find my way around,it'll be time to go home!! Our room is #002 on the 5th floor. We get out of the elevator and when I look down the hall,I feel like I'm in the "Twilight Zone"! Wow! its like a freekin' optical illusion lookin' down this hallway! Creepy.
I'm thinkin' to myself,we shoulda stayed at AKL. ...
We finally get to the end of the hall and our room. It was beautiful! I was so happy it wasn't a dump. And,we didn't have a balcony but we did overlook Boardwalk! It was a great view!
I convince Karen not to unpack and we'd just get back in the car and go to SeaWorld. So,we're off!
SeaWorld isn't my favorite park, but we were going to Discovery Cove the next day and I thought it would be good to go here first. Besides, its only 9:30 am,we have the whole day to tour the park and be back in time to get to MGM and our PS at Mama Melrose's for 7pm.
The park wasn't crowded at all! I think this park stinks. Literally. It smells. Now,I know there are fish here, but they're not sittin' out in the hot sun!! Why the stench????? Karen shoots me a look and tells me to "get over it,NOW! And stop holdin' ya nose!" After awhile,I get use to the place smellin' like low tide and we have a fun day lookin' at fish.....
We leave Seaworld about 3pm. The sky looked really scarey.
We knew there was gonna be wicked storm so we decided we'd head back to "The Cod"(ok,ok,The Dolphin...). we no sooner got on I-4 and the lightning was unbelieveable!!!!! Florida gets some really violent weather!! When we got back to the hotel,it was still pouring so hard we sat in the car for awhile until we felt we could safely make a run for it. Atleast the air didn't smell like an opened can of tuna!
It stopped raining ,but the minute we started to wait for the Friendship boat to MGM,it started again! ThankGod for the ponchos!!
We have a hard time finding Mama Melrose's and walk around in circles until we find it by accident. Again,I'm SO HAPPY I made those PS's!! There's lots of people waiting, but not us!!!
We get seated, order drinks. I shoulda kept that poncho on----- the waitress spills the tray of nice cold brews on my lap!
But I just laughed and laughed,I knew my shorts were waterproof! LOLOL!! She felt really bad. So bad, dinner was free!!!
After dinner,we walked around in the rain that was kinda stoppin' but not completely. We didn't want to stay out too late cuz we had to be up early the next day for Discovery Cove.
Besides,we had another time planned to spend in MGM. Then, all of a sudden,we kinda get stuck in this crowd and corraled up this walkway. We go with the flow. We end up at Fantasmic! We had awesome seats! WHAT A SHOW!!!!!!!!! What a surprise!!!!!
After the show we head back to the hotel and get ready for
our day tomorrow at Discovery Cove.
