Wicked movie

My girls and I want to see it, but DH cannot stand Ariana Grande. So, I'm not sure what we're going to do. I'm OK with it being split in two so that they can try and keep true to the Broadway production without making a ton of cuts or story improvs. I'm just curious to see how I feel about it once I watch. I have my Broadway faves when it comes to Glinda and Elphaba. What I've heard of Cynthia Erivo sounds really good, so I think I'll be just fine with Elphaba. I wasn't a fan of Grande's Penny in Hairspray Live! So, I'm a little concerned that her Glinda may evoke some of those Penny memories.
I am with your husband was excited about it until I heard AG is in it.

Huge Wicked fan from way back and have been looking forward to a movie version for almost 20 years. I don't go to the movies very often anymore but definitely will for this...although I will wait a bit for the hype to die down.

My expectations are tempered considering my love of the stage production. Definitely was NOT happy when I heard Ariana Grande was going to play Glinda and I am still skeptical but we'll see. However when I heard Jonathan Bailey will be playing Fiyero I was 😍

I am growing more optimistic. I've seen a few clips from her performance of Popular and it doesn't sound like the normal Ariana Grande. It sounds more like she's trying to channel what she saw as a 10 year old from Kristen Chenoweth's Broadway performance. Again, not a huge fan of AG's, but what I've seen thus far actually looks good.

I'm hoping to go see it on Friday. A friend of mine got to see a preview showing a few days ago and she LOVED it! She's seen the show on Broadway numerous times so she's been a little leery about the movie -- wasn't sure she would like it or not. She's a happy camper and I suspect she'll see the movie a few more times.

To be honest I wasn't happy with either casting.

AG ~ I really didn't know who she was until her brother was on Big Brother. :confused3 Tells my age. Then I knew her as a singer and was concerned about her acting. A perfect example is Beyonce totally ruined the Lion King movie with her inability to vocally animate Nala. Now that there are more unqualified "people" in the Mufasa, we won't be going to see it. I digress but my concern was they hired a "name" and not an actress. The more I read of her background, and saw she started her career on Broadway as a teen. Okay, she is deeper and more qualified than I thought. And perhaps now mature, tackling more.

CE ~ I knew she had the vocals and assumed acting came with it BUT my Wicked Witch has very sharp very haunting jawbone. Idina Menzel has the perfect bone structure, she is what is in my head. I didn't know if the makeup they would do could narrow Cynthia's round face. Now as I've seen trailers and her interviews, I love her personality and think even if she doesn't look "witch" like, she can pull that vibe.

For not wanting either one to begin with, and I'm not easily convinced otherwise, I'm really looking forward to seeing them both. Their chemistry is incredible.

I'll wait for both parts to come to streaming. I cannot stand two-parters, especially when it's perfectly capable of being one part. Reeks of money grab. Meanwhile, I'll reread the books.

That's me, too. I can't imagine taking the musical and making it both 2 movies and over 5 hours in length.

Just like I wasn't a fan of Peter Jackson's extended LOTR editions vs his theatrical releases (b/c you can just have too much material for a movie), I'm probably not gonna be a fan of the drag out here, either, so I might as well enjoy it when it hits Peacock (which let me get another year for $20, or less than the cost of the movie ticket just for me)...

Seems to be on a LOT of TV ads lately and there was some 'behind the scenes' show on last night. Is this supposed to be related to the Broadway show or some sort of sequel to Wizard of Oz? Haven't really followed it that closely to know.
