Wicked movie

Just got home. 7 of us including a musical theater major who wore pink. All had seen Broadway show. We all loved it. Went by so fast. DS#1 and I already have tickets to go again. He wore his Wicked shirt and I had striped top and socks! 💚🖤 for my girl.

Wasn’t planning on seeing it till after part 2 came out but the kids asked to go so we went this evening. Excellent job done by John Chu to have very minimal pacing issues expanding act 1 the way he did.

Ariana was better than I expected and her and Cynthia’s chemistry was perfect.

Also bravo to whoever decided to change a lyric in Defying Gravity.

It was OK, but honestly, fell kinda flat. It was entertaining, and the music was good, but all in all I would give it a C+/B-.
It could have been much much better with only a few tweaks.

Love the socks! And I am already ready to see it again . . . and we just got home about 20 minutes ago!

Thank you! 💚🖤

If I weren’t on my way to Disney World I’d be back in theater already! But I am booked for as soon as I get back. Thinking I might keep going until it leaves theater.

I have AMC A-List so I’m going to get my monies worth in Dec.

My immediate reaction as the credits rolled was "I have to see this again"!

But I'm departing for WDW on Sunday, so it'll have to wait until I get back.

Saw the Musical stage play and enjoyed it, not one of my favorites but solid entertainment. The movie was a big disappointment UNTIL they reached the Emerald City. The whole Gravity scene was top notch. So how do you rate a movie that for 2 hours leaves you hoping for it to end, but you get to the end and you are "WOW". Glad I am not a critic and have to give out a grade, this one would be a real problem -- at least for me.

I saw it tonight with my theater loving 24 Dd she cried a few times i thought Cynthia Erivo was great! Never been a fan of Ariana so didn’t enjoy her performance she lacked the cheeky genuineness that Kristin Chenoweth had.

That's my concern. I'm not a fan of Ariana. What I've heard of her singing for this sounded really good, but I haven't seen a lot in the previous that showcased some of those humorous moments and nuances that I've seen in a number of Glinda's. I was watching a performance by Megan Hilty in the role and it just made me wonder if this silliness would be missing from Ariana's Glinda.

Yes in my opinion that is definitely missing in Ariana’s portrayal

Since I did not want any spoilers, I avoided all press and ads related to the movie. So when I put tissues in my pocket for when they sing For Good, I clearly did not even realize that this was Part 1, only taking us up through intermission. I guess I’ll be crying my eyes out in a theatre this time next year.

Went to see it Saturday morning (9:50 showing, movie started about 10:20). I was entertained, but did literally doze off 2-3 times (hold for "gasps" and pearl clutching). DSis, who had already seen it once, commented that seeing it the second time allowed her to see Easter Eggs she had missed the first time.

DW said she teared up a couple of times.

I'll probably go see Part 2, but didn't "love it" (and didn't "hate it").

My thoughts on the film: We saw it in IMAX because there was no way I was going to see this one on a tiny screen. Nearly every seat in the theatre was full, thus making my little musical theatre heart (and Nicole Kidman) very proud.

Visually stunning. Sets and costumes, yes siree. They killed it. Like many, I questioned the casting of AG. Why? Because we worship The Cheno in my house. We were like, who could fill those size 5.5 shoes? While AG’s performance was stronger than I expected, I still wasn’t fully convinced that she deserved the role. Now Ms. Cynthia, yessss. Girl. No trouble at all with that casting! Everyone in the theatre just waitin’ to hear her sing Defying Gravity. And what a moment that was.

The pacing was oddly slow. I get that as filmmakers they were given the gift of time to tell more of the story with breaking it up into two parts. But at certain points I was like, what in the Stephen Schwartz is going on here? Move the story along please! And I was disappointed in the choreography as well. I love large-scale dance sequences more than life itself and just expected so much more. Applause at the end of the film from the audience, and well deserved it was. Anywho, they got my money and they’ll be getting my money again next year too. No one in our theatre sang along, thank goodness. Pretty sure they’ll come out with a sing-a-long in the theatre version very soon. I mean, just give the people what they want.

We saw it yesterday. DH loves the original Broadway soundtrack and play, and we're purist fans of Idina and Kristen in the roles. Cynthia did a great job in the role, but I am still not sold on Arianna. I knew that she would be capable in the roll, but there were times when she felt flat and lacking. Honestly, I'd like to see samples of how some of the other top contenders for the role performed during auditions. We were pleased with Jonathan Bailey's performance. I enjoyed seeing a less serious character than Anthony Bridgerton, and his singing and dancing were fun. I wanted more.

I apparently missed spoilers that Idina and Kristen had cameos in the movie, so when they came on screen, we got super excited! I do wonder if we'll see any other original cast members?

DD and I have had big issues with this, since it was announced. I have seen the stage version 8 times, she has 7 times. It's very important to us, she was 10 when she first saw it and this show is what spawned her love of musical theater. Then we were not thrilled at all with the casting. That said, once reviews came out, we went to see it. While it wasn't perfect, and it was too long, we both thought they did an excellent job with the film. We loved that they left all the songs as they were (except for the Idina/Kristen addition). And I am not an Arianna fan, but I thought she was great. I thought Popular was delightful.

Did anyone watch the SNL when Ariana hosted? She was hilarious! I'm not sure why more of her sense of humor didn't come across in the movie.
