Anybody know if there is wi-fi at the fort? If so, what is cost? We are staying in our trailer not in a cabin. I am assuming they have it. Someone let me know.... we leave this coming Friday.

Thanks guys...

When we where there last it was only available in the preferred loops. But it was $10 a day.

I don't want to hijack this thread, but was about to post myself when I saw this. We are staying at a cabin and it looks like I'll have a laptop after all. I know there is no wireless in the cabin but I'm willing to pay the $10 that I think I remember reading per day to connect. But, I need to know what type cord they supply to connect. Is is USB or is it more like a telephone cord? (I'm obviously not very computer literate, or I'm sure I'd know the correct names for these things.) And, am I right on the $10/day? Finally, how much is it (refundable, I think) for the kit to get access?

Thanks! Please make sure to answer the OP's questions first, if the answers are different than those for mine. I just didn't want to post the same question right after theirs.

Leslie

PS - I'm looking forward to trying to meet some of y'all!

I'm not sure about the cabins but most places that require a hard wire hookup use a network cable availible in various sizes at any big box electronics store or walmart. These have an end on them like a phone cord but fatter they have 8 contacts and a phone cable has 4.

The kit is already in the cabins...no deposit required for it....they use the telephone type chords(ethernet).

others will probably know better since we use our air card but, I believe wi-fi is at crocketts tavern but still the $10 for 24 hours. For your site it will most likely be a hard wired setup which requires modem rental. I have detected minimal wi-fi signal in the loops we have stayed but, it was inconsistent at best. even when it was there it was weak.I believe this is how it was, I haven't checked in a while because of the air card.

We were there just after Easter and I picked up a weak, but usable, signal from the rockers at the Meadows TP. It was $9.99 for 24 hours. So if you get on a little earlier the 2nd day, you can make 2 days out of it.

You need to make sure you have charging privileges on your room key - that is the only card it will take.

Good luck,
David

If you get a WIFI signal in the loops, it is from an unsecured modem in someones RV. You can also go to the front in the reception outpost and get WIFI, it is still $10 but a better signal than Crockett's Tavern. I think the refundable deposit for the equipment to hook up at your site is $125 or $135 and you still pay the $10 for 24 hours.

The information posted thus far is correct.

For internet at the campsites, the information on this thread, which is now over a year old, is still accurate:

I checked out a modem kit on my last visit (earlier this month). The procedure and cost is still the same.

Dh did the wifi thing at crocketts 1 day during our trip to pay bills & such and said that it was superfast and worth the $10 but it would have been better if we could of gotten that great of a signal at our site instead! LOL

We've used it once, but to be honest, I thought we would use it WAY more than what we did. If you have a need for it, it's worth the money, but just make sure you need it first ;)

I am not sure if it was a fluke, but when we were staying at the Fort 3 weeks ago, I tried my laptop in the reception outpost building [where you sign in for the cabins] and got a weak signal. Then I moved outside the building, and sat in the rockers on the side porch by the trailer/rv drive-thru registration. I was able to get a strong signal there, and did not pay anything. The internet access just came up, no payment needed, and no user password, etc. was even asked for.

Maybe just a fluke, but maybe someone else will be as lucky!

ecolyer.....thats a nice little promising light. I guess ya never know till ya try!!! I tried to find a free signal from a couple of different areas when we were there in Dec....but had no luck. I was hoping to catch an unsecured network from the rv loops....but didnt find many networks at all, much less unsecured ones. I did quite a bit of surfing while in the mall parking lots on our last day while the wife and kids did the last day shopping runs.

I've used the Wireless at our Site or I probably should say I tried to use it. It simply isn't worth the hassle. I ended up going to the Cyber Cafe which was actually kind of nice. It's quiet and it's a good work space. I use it whenever we're there which is 4-5 times a year.
I'll be using it again this Tuesday
