Just wondering,why was Disney chosen for Gay days?

It's was organized as a part of "Gay & Lesbian Pride Week" by Orlando Gay Activist Doug Swallow in 1991. After a while it took on it's own life and Gay & Lesbians and their friends from around the country now come to Disney on the first weekend in June.

June is historically the month to celebrate and remember the "Stonewall Riots" in NYC in 1969. There are many many events all around the country that celebrate and remember those people that put their lives at risk for our freedom.

Note there are two different websites with slightly different stories about the development of the event.

IMNSHO, the reason this event took off but similar events at various theme parks around the country didn't is because of MARKETING!!!

Why not? It's chosen for Nights of Joy, a Marathon, 2 PGA Golf Tournaments, many conventions and other business meetings, HUGE Family reunions, Grad Nights, and probably a gazillion events that pass with little to no notice. And lots more that are celebrated, like the NFL Super bowl Parade. WDW is no unique in the fact it is a large entertainment area and a lot of groups choose to celebrate there.

As an Orlando resident I can also tell you that Universal was considered, but in 91 it was far too new (and unorganized) to host the event. Now there is a rotation between Universal and SeaWorld as to favorable days to attend.

Disney also has the highest number of close by hotels to accomodate the masses that come each year.

An interesting footnote, 2 years ago GayDays was the only day of the year that the Magic Kingdom was "maxed out", meaning they had to close off the park after it reached capacity and could not allow anyone else in.
