why would this be ok-grocery store rules

Nothing you can do about someone like that- although if she were running at breakneck speed- how can you be sure she heard you? Here 3 little kids wouldn't fit in those cars. 2 is the max- if you tried 3 no doubt someone would fall out.
She heard me say it. She looked at me and then took off for the cart. She knew that we were going to the cart. 3 kids fit in the cart. 2 in the car one in the seat.

I was a cashier at A&P in high school and I always went and got the next person in line and pulled their cart over, never from the back.
If someone from the end of the line tried to come first, I'd just say sorry, I have to take the next person in line.

What's wrong with my son sitting in the car in the front of cart? He is 2.5 and LOVES to drive the car. I don't think they are reserved for people with only 2 or more kids with them. :confused3

I don't know what you mean by double carts but we have the carts with the cars in the front and then ones with the car in the back where you push and the actual cart in front.

I never thought, in a million years, that I was offending someone when using those with my ONE child because he loved them. I have seen plenty of people using them with just one child.
I think what the PP is referring to is carts that have a car with a seat for one child vs carts that have a seat for two children. A new supermarket opened near us, and I saw a kid (one) in a little "police car" cart (cutest thing!) that had seating for two. I don't have little kids anymore, and I have no idea if they also had carts with one seat. :confused3

That is exactly what it was like. I was standing right in front of the cart when she shoved her kid in. I just stood there with probably a look of shock on my face because I could not believe she just did that! Even my kids just stood there. It was the most bizarre thing. She knew she did something wrong too because she would not even make eye contact with me. We kept seeing her in the store and one of my kids was crying about it. Of course I was consoling my child and, well, when they asked me why the lady ran and stole our cart I said very loudly that some people simply have no manners and we need to feel sorry for them because apparently nobody ever taught them to be nice and do the right thing.:rolleyes1 Yeah, I know, bad Mom moment but sometimes I just cannot help myself. :)

I don't think we have The car carts here that are made for a single child. I was talking about the carts that are made with a two seat plastic area for two kids to sit while the parent pushes. Regardless of the shape of them car or otherwise they are intended for two children. Using one of these just because a single child wants to sit in it is no different than using one of the store wheelchairs or scootesr "just because". I'm sure if they are a one seater then I wouldn't have a problem at all. I see you have a little one on the way. Great big congrats and I have a feeling that in the near future you might see my point.
Sorry the post hijack OP. Until your post I never even thought about the line jump issue either way. Maybe I have offends people in the past by moving over. I do not remeber ever being offended myself

I had a woman see me going for the cart with the car attatched and she ran past me at breakneck speed with her child and threw him into it. I had 3 little kids (under 3) and it wasn't like I was expecting special treatment but she knew we were walking over to it, heard us talking about it (hold hands we are going to the car cart etc.) and then she made a mad dash for it. We were literally 3 feet away from the cart. There were no other carts in this area. She knew exactly what we were doing. My kids started crying. I tried to make the best of it but because it was so deliberate it really pissed me off. Of course we kept seeing them and my little ones kept asking why that lady took the cart we were going to? My answers although juvenile let her know that I saw what she did and karma is alive and well.;)

THAT is exactly what I am talking about! I would have been livid and probably stalked her! Lol

And yes 3 little kids can fit one in the basket two in the seats. When you shop with three little one you do what you gotta do! It's alot better than piling two in one cart, one in another then pushing one and pulling the other. Fish idont miss those days!

In my local supermarket all the trollies with seats for 1 small baby these for older children all have seats for two so if you have one child you have to use a seat for two or carry your child.

I am with DMickey28 on this one why not let a child use it, I don't see the logic in we must not use it because someone with 2 children might come in and want to use it. If its in use with one child or two there is no difference its not available, its more snowflake type to expect everything to be there for you just because you have an extra child.

In our grocery, the clerk comes to the next person in line and says, " I can help you on aisle X ma'am," It's civilized and it works.
